Interesting. This wouldn’t be surprising if Johnson hadn’t already said he wouldn’t shoot anything in the format. Wonder what changed.

Funny, I never heard about him saying that. Was it before principle photography started in earnest? It may very well have been a last minute decision.

Yeah I believe so. Also, thinking about it, the quote might have been that wouldn’t be shooting 65mm, so perhaps this was just in regards to the fact the film would be mostly 35mm (and perhaps not precluding the possibility of an IMAX scene). It was awhile ago, and I don’t remember where that I read this, so maybe take it with a grain of salt.

Trevorrow has said he wants to shoot IX entirely in 65mm, presumably with some of that being full Imax.

Nolan shot Dunkirk that way.

Having seen the Dunkirk preview in front on the 70mm IMAX presentation of Rogue One, that would be awesome!

Since I’m not watching the trailer, I’m firing this thread up again to say this

is one of the coolest Star Wars posters I’ve seen in a long time. Glad the minimal logo and stars one isn’t the only teaser poster like last time.

I would love to see hollywood use hand-painted designs again, but I really like this one. It’s definitely a departure from the generic style that is used in all blockbuster movies these days.

I love the poster idea but I’m not totally sold on the execution.

Same here, it’s probably the awkward white boarder which also cuts Rey.

The trailer was very interesting and it seems to go off from the safe zone, it had me very intrigued.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

its a solid poster. Much better than the typical Marvel crap.

Very much love the poster - certainly better than the Force Awakens stuff.

Aside from the floating spliced head, I find the poster most supremo. I especially like the “blue-to-red” effect with the saber blade.

The teaser trailer!

Either Luke has a lesson to learn - that the Jedi are ultimately necessary and not a root cause of suffering/evil - or 😦

Sounds to me like they have a little learning to do from each other - Rey needs Luke for her training, but old Luke needs the youthful Rey to give him back a little hope…

As Max von Tekka (sic) said “Without the Jedi, there can be no balance in the Force…”

Is trailer talk spoiler talk? I realize some might not think so. If it isn’t I’ll just step out of the TLJ threads entirely.

I do want to say, about the “balance in the Force” line, I’ve been thinking recently that that might be the single most significant PT reference in TFA, even though so many miss or or forget about it. The PT never really explained what it meant though it’ll be really interesting to see if TLJ and/or IX explores the concept with more depth.

I personally think that anything officially released (trailers, posters) is fair game in the non spoiler thread (otherwise there’s not much to talk about!). But if others feel strongly otherwise, then we can shut it down.

Agree totally on the balance on the force stuff there DominicCobb…

I once said that I thought trailers counted as spoilers, and a bunch of people said I was wrong.

It’s tricky because trailers do spoil. But there is a question of where that line gets crossed.

I wish there was some way to just speculate in a vacuum completely devoid of any real info from the film. But obviously as it gets closer that’s really impossible to do on a forum like this.

Don’t mind me, I’ll be on my way.

Did anyone notice how the trailer sorta mimicked the style of the first TFA teaser?

  1. Open on a landscape with a jumpscare and low music
  2. Narration over trailer footage from a strange voice
  3. BB-8 running (a stretch)
  4. Brief look at Kylo Ren with his lightsabre near the end
  5. Frantic speeding of ships / speeders

There is surely more, but I’ve only seen the trailer twice and this is all that can come to mind. If this is spoiler talk, I’ll move it.

Said exactly that to my Mrs so you’re not alone!

I found the teaser trailer to be really fucking boring. It’s officially going at the bottom of my list for Most Anticipated 2017 Movies I Want to See.

It’s underwhelming, definitely. Boring, though? I’m not so sure.

I almost fell asleep while watching it.
