I have made the decision that I will only stream clips and show parts of the edit. But I will show you the best bits and post them over time.

My Ultimate decision is final. But I will post up clips from it in due course. I am sorry for this but I think it is more respectful in terms of this particular film.

Bummer I was looking forward to this. If you change your mind zipping it up into 500mb chunks and putting it on mediafire or zippyshare should keep the Google robots off it. Then check out fanedit.com and fanedit.info It would be a good place to catalog your edits, and would probly win fanedit of the month.

It looks really good, it would be a shame if your the only one who could view your good work.
Hope you change your mind and this gets out into the wild.

Very disappointed that I won’t be able to see this edit in full, I’ve been following it for months and Enter The Dragon is one of my all-time favourites.

Sorry, what happened?

did you miss a part?

I have tried to leave the parts up to stream for some time so you can see them…

Ok so the time has come to share the last parts of what I have done with the film so far…

Now I have done my best and I have tried and tried and although I am much happier with the way it is in the edit since discovering many things about this film, I know there is still room from improvement. I am no expert, on film restoration, far from it, but I can still see some problems and I have also missed a couple of things in the clips that you will find below. I have missed a music cue when the doors slam shut on Bruce in the cave from theatrical, and I have also missed Bruce lee’s voice when he punches the reflection of Han from theatrical. There is possibly more, I will apologize for this and this will all be fixed.

I am thinking of upscaling this to 720p using super resolution also but not before I have done another color pass.

It needs one more pass in terms of color and the Su-lin Flashback needs the sound mix re-done and the Banquet, but I am still sharing what I have done so far. I honestly hope you enjoy it… But I know deep down inside although I want to declare it “finished” it is most of the way there but it’s still not there yet. Patience is a virtue. Don’t be afraid to to say what you think especially if you do not like something or anything has stood out to you as “I don’t like that” I know you can never please everyone but… I don’t want a huge objection and I have not had any yet so great, but don’t be silent if you have a problem or if you think something can be better.

Very Special Thanks to Silverwook also.

Happy Halloween Ladies 😃

https://vimeo.com/189354932

I just wanted to add a bit of trivia to this because I think it is a small but important find. Take note of the shot of Han when he is looking at Bolo before he is knocked out. For some strange reason this small bit footage was played in reverse. So I un-reversed it so it now plays as it was meant to.

Not sure if the shot of Roper was “Meant to be” the final hit but It’s the only footage I could find that is not in the film originally and his leg is low enough to be kicking Bolo in the head to finish him off. So I used it. Note Bruce lee is right behind him on that small snippet and it follows on to the next shots also for Bruce and Ropers positioning on the field.

Note also Bruce Lee and Han have been cropped from the sidelines as they shout commands to the Martial artists and lost drunken men. Bruce and Han were not in character and not meant to be in the shot.

Mei Ling is now silent and deadly.

I meant that it is split up into parts which is hardly an enjoyable way to experience any film. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate all your hard work and it looks great, but if it were a full film it may well have replaced my blu-ray as my go to version of the film, where as now that it is broken up into parts its becomes something of a curiosity that will be viewed but likely not with any longevity.

I am dragging my feet on this a bit at the moment… But I am not quite finished either I need to concentrate on work that earns me money, I don’t have the will to finish it at present I needed a break.

I have re-arranged the middle part and I am making a number of other edits.

I am also re-doing the mirror maze sequence to be better still.

I think with about another 4 days work on it. 40 - 60 hours It will be finished. Could be more work than that to be honest because I will be adding extra end credits also.

I could use some advice on best way to upscale also perhaps recruit some more detail from it.

EDIT

You know a lot of work I did is kind of not noticeable on this really because I color corrected a version very similar to the laser disc theatrical version and I have ended up with pretty much the same results as the official release. At the end of the day it probably would have been better to use a better color corrected release but I wanted to learn color correction… If you want to learn color correction I would reccomend doing what I did get the Diagostini version or the laserdisc and color correct it and find it comes out very similar to the special edition. I am glad I did it though as I learnt a lot it’s just not too noticeable what I actually did it’s only on a few occasions I probably outshone the special edition release and it could only be for a few minutes or a few seconds. It is possibly one of the best learning films for color correction although like I said it’s very similar to the special edition or not even noticeable in many cases. It took a lot of time and you could say wasted time but not for me.

Just wanted to drop a small update…

I am nearly finished version 2. There is not much left to be done.

But a couple of surprises I have had with some small bits of missing footage and their relationship to the Audio.

The first instance is with regard to Bruce in His room when O’Hara come in and tells him “You must attend the morning Ritual in Uniform” Basically once this scene is over we cut to the Training grounds and the Karate training before the tournament begins. A missing shot here reveals why the Audio does not synch with the Men Punching… This then continues on until we get to the referee who’s lines are also are way out of Synch but now it is in synch. But because the Chinese actors mouthed their Lines phonetically this is slightly cut footage of the shot of the referee. But it works the same way as other shots of this nature were handled. So although it’s nothing amazingly exciting it just makes the film more plausible and it’s a nice discovery.

The second instance is when Bruce is in the Communications Hut in the underground Complex. Bruce uses the morse code machine. We then cut to the cameo of Robert Clouse decoding the message. Now here comes the missing shot. In the original film we cut to Bruce climbing out the Window and jumping down to be attacked by the guards there is no Alarm until he jumps out the window. But the missing shot is of the Alarm and when added it times out to be a small shot of the Alarm with the Sound and it fit’s seamlessly as a single extra Loop. Rectifying the absence of the sound of the Alarm which started much earlier.

So these 2 discoveries are a couple of reasons to be proud of discovering editing errors and rectifying them so that it lines up how it is actually meant to be experienced.

I have added some small extra snippets to the Cave Fight and have also extended the Mirror maze by about 5 seconds. Further Color Tweaking and more Audio Edits. I Might not Do the Extra End Credits I don’t think it would work. Very Close to wrapping this up.

There is potential for another 3 small snippets to be restored to the film. And a few extra frames of Han’s Smashed Reflection that are missing. a few audio edits too. But I could be practically done by next week.

EDIT - The small snippets are not in good enough quality so it leaves footage wise just the missing frames Hans Reflection and about 3 audio edits and a closing title card left to do.

Audio edits:
Missing shout Guard swinging the stick in Cave fight that smashes through the glass of Communications hut.
Fix Dodgy Music Fade during the Banquet introduced in the Special Edition Version Audio Mix
Restore Bruces shout before he Punches the reflection an error I introduced by accident.

Did the audio for this yesterday… although i need to check over a few things.

Images out of date slightly for color.

Small amount of Video to do will be out by December.

Please can somone offer advice on either keeping this DVD quality or upsaling best way to encode… Need Advice.

Very close now. It should have been finished ages ago but i got a bit distracted and bored of working on it. Anyway nearly there now.

I have been working on it sporadically but it is as i said nearly done.

Fyi This is a fan edit but with a lot of preservation and restoration at heart.
It is like an extended theatrical cut or a special edition of the theatrical cut but with some scene rearrangd in an effort to restore proper chronological order (tournament section) and music cues noted in the script but also restores a lot of missing audio only heard in the asian versions of the film. The video has been the real tough part of getting it to look right as the transfer was bad…

Although I asked for advice on encoding anyone can offer advice on authoring a DVD also or help with this part.

Thanks

Is there an upload somewhere of the laserdisc version or will we have to wait for your version because i have never seen enter the dragon and want to see it with everything that was meant to be there

This is not the theatrical cut or the special edition as the special edition is based on the asian version or hong kong version.

This is sort of a hybrid with a few extra shots and alternate takes not found in any other version but which follows the script for the tournament so there is a part that is rearranged so it gives more clarity to the timeline of the tournament part.

But is more akin to the theatrical version than the asian version or special edition version.

But the audio is very much a new mix created from various sources but restores all the music from all versions + the whole of “gentle softness” and missing sound effects from the asian version and also i added a few strokes of audio and sound effects myself where audio was clearly missing and to accomodate extra footage but it is not particularly revisionist and sorts out audio synch issues also as it goes out of synch in some parts in the special edition version.

The theatrical cut is only on laserdisc but i hope this version will be like a sort of substitute that goes beyond the theatrical cut and fixes all the jump cuts and it flows much better also being more smooth and refined but also to create a version that is a bit more sensible and padded out slightly.

where can i find a copy of the laserdisc version online?

I don’t know but I would reccomend the special edition probably as a first watch version as the theatrical version on laserdisc has really muddy contrast and overtly red and green shifted… It looks quite bad being honest with you.

Here is a sample from laserdisc.

It’s not something to hate but the special edition looks much better and you will enjoy it better probably given the poor quality of the release.

Yeah that is theatrical cut of the US version.

There is also a hong kong theatrical cut. Both in Cantonese and Mandarin.

Anyway… Please can somone give advice best way to encode if upscaled and best way for upscaling with DVD or alternative please give advice on best authoring software for DVD.

Alternatively happy to let somone else do an upscale if they want to of the edit or author.

Thanks

The versions are different.

They have been tailored to appeal to different markets being western and eastern.

My edit caters to a western market and is basically the theatrical cut with a few differences. It is an attempt to create the most full version content wise.

You can search enter the dragon on movie censorship but it won’t point out missing audio and music. But will tell you about the differences between the versions visually.

I suggest you actually watch it and decide if you like it first before asking me about this any further… Seriously any more of this and i will ignore you.

Back to asking about upscaling and encoding if you don’t have anything to offer on this please do not reply.

Thank you

I have used DVD Architect Studio and it’s OK to good overall. There’s a trial version, but I don’t know what the limitations are. It’s easy to use, but I didn’t like the text layouts. Also there were many bugs for BD authoring.
