Idea: 'Douglas Adams - Hitchhiker'

Taking its name from the excellent biography, I would like to do a project paying tribute to Douglas Adams. I was thinking this could feature some of the rarely seen projects he was involved in. I have AVI files of “Hyperland,” the “South Bank Show” episode about him and the “Doctor on the Go” episode written by him and Graham Chapman. I also have an AVI of his Letterman appearance to promote “So Long and Thanks for All the Fish.”

Some items I would like to include on this set (but I don’t have) are:
BBC The Big Read: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (UK special looking at the country’s best-loved books did a Hitchhiker-centric episode)
Marvin The Paranoid Android on Blue Peter (performing one of his 80s novelty songs)
Douglas Adams/John Lloyd written episodes of Doctor Snuggles (There are 2 episodes of these. Doctor Snuggles was a European environmentally minded show in the 1980s).
Any other rare TV appearances

Is there any interest from other folks in here on this?

What? Only one reply to this so far? I would have thought there would have been a lot more H2G2 fans around here. I think it would be a great project, and I for one would be very happy to see you do this project.

Now this is a GREAT idea.

I think I have an off-air VHS recording of the South Bank show somewhere. I thought that did a great job. I remember being particularly excited that scenes from "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" were dramatised. Such a shame no-one has attempted a full TV adaptation.

Mind you if Sky One can tackle Pratchett's "The Hogfather" then there's hope yet!!

Slightly off topic but maybe of interest to those following this thread that breaking news on The Douglas Adams Continuum Forum, is that the company behind the recent 'Hitchhiker's Guide' radio series are to make Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently books into a BBC Radio 4 drama.

BBC Radio 4 has commissioned Above The Title (with Dirk Maggs at the helm) to make an 18 x 30 minute adaptation of Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently books, following the indie's successful production of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It will run over 3 series of 6 episodes and will begin in October of this year. It was ordered by commissioning editor for comedy and entertainment; Caroline Raphael.

To dcfcfan. I'm afraid I don't have any of the material you are asking for here, but I'd like to ask you a favour if you don't mind. You say you have the AVIs of Hyperland and the South Bank Show with Douglas Adams. I have the torrents for both of these but only Hyperland was fully seeded, whereas the South Bank Show is only 94.5% complete online (the filesize is apparently 334,240,396 bytes).

Could you do me (along with the dozen or so extra leechers wanting this as well) a really big favour and seed the SBShow .avi via the relevant .torrent that can be found on i,s;o:h.u-n+t, or I can post it directly to you. Either way, you'd be helping out the many other people who cannot obtain this .avi in full atm. Many thanks.

I'm pretty inept when it comes to uploading, seeding, torrenting, etc, but I can tell you that Hyperland and the South Bank Show (as well as some of the Big Ideas Adams pieces) can be downloaded here as AVIs.

I hope this helps.

Thank you a thousand times over for the weblink. The SBShow .avi is a different file to the torrent one (double the bytes!) and the Hyperland appears to be the same one as the torrent.

Thanks for the link dcfcfan! I'm going to download these now!
I've got to take a look at my copy of Hitchhiker to figure out what kind of towel would be appropriate to wear on Towel Day.
