Does the IRC channel still exist?

Someone reminded me of it in another forum. It's been years since I visited it. (And was mostly dead at the time.) I don't recall what IRC server it was on, but it was one of the big laggy ones full of weirdoes messaging you out of the blue if you were not "invisible" while logged in.

If it's long gone, would there be any interest in starting it up again on a smaller less scary IRC server?

IRC is internet relay chat in case you're a youngling. ;)

Original announcement is here. I don't think Jay maintains the channel any more.

Reviving the IRC could increase the signal to noise ratio.  The rambling might drift to the IRC.

Was able to get into (or it created a temporary room)

Server: us.undernet.org (check local listings)

Port: 6667

Room: originaltrilogy

From past experience, I find undernet too full of scary people and troublemakers though.

If I may suggest:

Server: irc.scifi-fans.net

Ports 6660-6668,7000

This used to be the irc server for the SciFi channel many years ago. It's still up and running, and seems like there are very few people on it.

Their website is an in browser chat.  If you do create a room through their irc, let us know the name.  otherwise this browser interface, as long as we don't piss off the locals could work.

I don't believe the chat thing on their site is connecting to the same place. Web based chat apps have seldom worked right for me anyway. I still use mirc after all these years.

Going to give it a try for a while tonight on the scifi server. I might be away from the keyboard at times, so make yourselves at home! :)

Server: irc.scifi-fans.net

It's going to be slow the first couple weeks (and the holidays aren't going to help), just have to stay logged in for stretches to see when people filter in and out.  But surprises do await those who dare to enter!

Two people from here apparently dropped by the channel I set up Thursday night while I was indisposed.

[getting nervous] Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?

It was someone in the THX preservation thread asking if we had a site chatroom. Nothing mysterious.

IRC is going Blu-Ray kR4z!3, stop on by, discuss what we don't know, bitch about that which we don't care.  yeah it's just someone else and myself...

The blu-ray announcement might be a good excuse to get this IRC going in 2011.
