Do you think George Lucas might release the original triloggy

I'm think think that George Lucas might release the original triloggy on HD-DVD he always changes his mind. What I'm think he'll say some thing like HD-DVD is able to have so much data on the format that it can hold two copy or three copies of high quality. And the reason i did not bring it out on DVD is that it could nto be done on DVD format.

Yeah, after God knows how many versions of these films have already been packaged and sold over the years, it's pretty much inevitable, I think.

won't happen,

Luas has said repeatedly that the OT would never be released, that 'they don't exist any more' which is crap cos the AFI has a copy of the OT pre SE changes. (late 90's the AFI asked Lucasfilm for a set of star wars, empire and jedi for inclusion in the national film archive. the story goes that lucasfilm sent 97 SE's of the films and the AFI sent them back, saying those were not the films as they were originally released. so apparently lucasfilm sent them original reels.)

anyway, it's been stated too many times now by lucasfilm for them to do a 180 and release it I think.

being amercia, they could get slapped with a class action by loads of people saying 'I only bought this set cos you said the originals were never gonna get released'

lots of corporate embarassment, won't happen.

I'd like them too, but it won't.

I think as long as fans and magzines continue to ' throw rocks' at him, he will do it. The people at LucasFlim signed some kind of agreement not to talk about what ever is going on there. Lots of people think it is about three more(7,8,9) flims but IMO kind of think it is about releaseing the OOT on DVD.
I really hope he does.

That won't happen. Lucas took all of the crucial events from those chapters (Luke's real sister, meeting the Emperor) and squeezed them into ROTJ. There's really nothing left of the original material to use for any future post-OT chapters - at least, not enough to fill 3 films.

At this point, I'd rather Lucas leave Star Wars alone.

I'm hopeful we'll see it before then, but I honestly think that we'll finally see the O-OT in digital format when Lucas' kids inherit his business.

Lucas will change his mind, just like he always does.

I don't think you guys get it, he will really never ever ever release the OT the way it was.
He has done the equivalent of 'I have no son!'. He has stated again and again that he can't stand them in their original versions.

So as far as he is concerned he hates the way the original films were released with a passion. As far as historical stuff goes, he considers the many many laserdisc, VHS and archived film copies out there more than enough - if he could he go and destroy them too so there was no evidence of the films in the version that he detests so badly.
Sure he changes his mind a lot, but it would take a religious awakening of momentous proportions to change his mind on this one.

If he suddenly had an apoplectic fit and changed hs mind, even financially it would make no sense, the costs to bring the OT as it was to DVD would be extensive, (contrary to popular belief there is no single digitised version of the OT at the ranch, just reams and reams of digitised elements) and how many copies would he sell of a faded Stereo version of the films - I would guess 100,000 copies at an absolute extreme, which isn't worth the effort from a money point of view.

About the only hope of ever seeing it on DVD would be if the AFI decided to digitize the film as a preservation measure and someone got a hold of it and leaked the terrabyte or so of files to someone who would compile it onto DVD and bootleg it.

Do you think he might release some before and after shots on upcoming dvd sets like the ogrinal dewback and the new? He did something like this on Making the Magic CD-ROM back in 96.

thanks, Laserman for the rain on my sunny day

Nah - GL is a profit whore - we'lll get one....

It's likely use the LD master plates - which I'm sure he has. Either that or he'll use the video from the Rowman/TR47 set!

Somewhere exists a 2K digital intermediate of the Original Trilogy. They had to have it to create all the special editions.

Call me a total cynic, but I don't put it past Lucas to delete the whole thing once the SE was generated.

he very likely did. but you know how these things go: there was someone in the machine room who bought terrabytes of firewire storage, made a clone during renderwatching, hid the drives under the subfloor, and snuck them slowly out in his lunchbox.
