But I don’t to wait until 2020!

For another SE release ? (I still don’t get why Disney buying Fox would lead to the release of the OOT…)

(if the OOT was to be released, it would probably already be done or at least officially planned)

The reason they’ve simply continued to reissue the same 2011 discs is because LFL doesn’t want to put out any kind of new release until the rights to Empire, Jedi, and the prequels revert to them in 2020.

At that point, the only movie they’ll have to worry about sharing with Fox is ANH if Disney hasn’t already bought them out from Murdoch by then.

I kind of don’t want this to happen.

Neither do I. Whatever potential benefits there are are outweighed by the potential costs.

The possibility, however remote, of getting the OUT is really clouding my judgment.

I doubt the two are related.

Well, if they do acquire Fox, they could conceivably get the rights to the OUT and restore it. But you’re obviously correct that it’s all speculation at this point.

To take the most pessimistic view… assuming Disney do want to acquire Fox and get full ownership of the OT before a re-release. It could mean that such a re-release will 100% not happen until they do get that ownership, which may take years.

Well, we know it’ll happen with everything except Star Wars 77 in 2020 regardless.

I know we’re all jumping to conclusions, but hopefully this means good news for the OOT. I guess even the FCC we’re trying to block this, so apparently they didn’t meet with much success.

While I like the idea of having all SW movies under one roof and finally incorporating the Fantastic 4 and the X-Men into the MCU, I think you guys should watch John Oliver’s video on corporate consolidation to understand why Disney buying Fox scares me. I personally don’t like the idea of one company owning such a huge chunk of the entertainment industry, plus it would leave us with only five major movie studios: Disney, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warner Brothers.

Speaking as someone who knows next to nothing about Marvel comics other than what I’ve seen over the years in other media (the early 90’s X-men cartoon was a Saturday morning staple for me as a kid) and picked up from friends of mine who actually do know the source material quite well, to me there’s a big element of “who cares?” when it comes to whether or not x-men and F4 ever cross over with the MCU. I’ve even heard it argued by actual fans that the “mutantverse” should basically be its own thing anyway.

Obviously it’s a little different with F4, whose absence in the MCU has been sorely felt by the hardcore fans as far as I can tell. MovieBob has a pretty good video on youtube about how he’d handle their introduction into the MCU. His solution? Make their origin story a time-travel story that flings them from the 1960’s into their future / our present.

Anyway, stuff like that could end up happening anyway without one company needing to buy out the other. The rights to Daredevil eventually went back to Marvel from Fox, didn’t it?

I was a big fan of early FF run and the '60’s Hanna-Barbera animated version. Doctor Doom is sorely missed in the MCU. Fans actually wanted to see him cross paths with Vader back in the day.
Reed Richards had enough dangerous experiments going on they could have all been trapped in another dimension where time flows differently or something. The Baxter Building could be this mysterious edifice that’s been sealed off for decades, when weird things begin to happen. I’d be up for a FF movie set in the early 60’s before bringing them forward to the current time.

WB only distributed the theatrical TCW film and released the show on video. I’m sure all the rights have always resided with Lucasfilm.

Then why did they cancel the show when it was so close to being finished? 😦

I wouldn’t call two and half more seasons “almost finished”.

Keep in mind they’re not getting any Fox television or cable networks in this deal. All Disney gets is the studio and the film library, which is arguably the crown jewel in all of this.

Not sure what this would do to The Simpsons being a major presence in Universal theme parks, but they still have Marvel characters and rides under existing contracts anyway.

Marvel (and the fans) wants FF for its villains, particularly Silver Surfer and Galactus. They offered to let Fox keep Daredevil in exchange for just Silver Surfer and Galactus.

Fox said no, Marvel got DD back, and we got Fan4stic.

Personally, I don’t care about the Four themselves, but I do really want Galactus, Silver Surfer, Dr. Doom, and Annihilus to be part of the MCU.

From the sound of that, I agree. I can’t recall any memorable villian from the Marvel movies other than Loki and Purple Karen Gillian (and only because I know who Karen Gillian is).

For the record, I agree that it’d be great to have the villians in the MCU, but I still don’t want to see this happen. Disney’s monopolization of the entertainment industry is kind of evil.

Oh, I’m not saying I think this acquisition is a good thing at all, however much I want all Marvel properties under one roof and for LFL to have proper rights to ANH.

It’d be so much better if all this was in the public domain like it should be. Modern copyright laws benefit no one beyond artless, capitalist pigs.

It may also include a proper Buffy remaster and a continuation of Firefly.

OH SWEET JESUS YES

and a continuation of Firefly.

…eeehhh, it’s been too long I think. I might be okay with a second movie, but they missed the boat on continuing it as a series years ago.

I disagree. I enjoyed Arrested Development coming back. There’s ways to do it if you’re smart, and Firefly was one of the smartest shows I’ve seen.
