Darth Solo's movie i seen last night opinion, be it an old or new filum.

This is more a topic on how the modern film industry is satifying the public needs, compared to your personal filum history. Im making the presumtuation that most people are disgruntled with modern cinema and home movies (down to the OT i guess, but its a type of behaviour i see across the web, Fanedit.org, IMDB, urm, torrent sites). It can be a sometimes negative, sometimes positive thing thing to get an indepandant point of view. And it also opens up new directions which you would normally dismiss. So if you want to include an edit even, go ahead.

For instance I avoid forign language films like the plage. I hate having to read subtitles as its destracting to whats going on, on screen. I for some reason got curious (i cant remember why at the time) about what i was hearin about a film called Battle Royale. Pleasently suprised it makes my top 5 filums now. It was a total change of direction of my attitude from the moment i seen it.

I just ask,

(1) what did you see last night/just now (keeping it to last nights/days viewing with it beeing a new experience freash in your mind)?

(2) Why did you watch it?

(3) Then a brief (dont just say "its shit", or get into a thousand word essay either) vent of your personal opinion...

(4) an individual 'serious' rating of the filum out of 10.

I guess this has already been done before maybe, EDIT: capinsolos thread is close just looking at it now, but its an aid to keep things freash, and this is more about reaction about the title(i didnt copy the formula honest to god). Add anything thats grabbed your interest today for what ever reasons.

Thread etiquette:

Keep personal disagreement opinions to 50 words or less. Keep it to repeated viewings of movies get 2 reviews only from the original poster, as i dont want 'i seen the Godfather tonight', more than once from the same person every night either.

PS. Whoever quotes 'filum' terminology here, be an arsehead. And i already call my response of "i expected that reply" in advance of the all clowns responceses, as im tring to be kinda being serious for once.

As i started it, then i say i've just this eavening just watched,

(1) Black Dynamite.

(2) I viewed the trailer and i LOL'd (at the chicks in the bed bit, early on in the film), love the era, and heard its the next best comedy since Airplane! on IMDB, after its release, not many bad comments about it either. Sold.

(3) Didn't LOL a great deal after the trailer scenes. Corneyness just esculated over OTT in the last 3rd of the film. But it is still a better than a lot of 99% of latest comedy films ive seen.

(4) 4/10.

D'ah! I was about to make a fun arsehead responceses about the last time I saw a filum being in my university biology class, and even then only being a picture of a filum, but then I read this post scripted bit under the heading "etiquette"...

Not gonna lie to ya, this thread is more than a little intimidating, what with coming complete with a syllabus and all. But I really do appreciate the effort of generating a deeper level of discussion. Since I just happened to watch a film last night, and probably won't offer myself that luxury again within the next few weeks, I'll seize this window of opportunity and give it a go with as little clownishness as possible.

(1) A Clockwork Orange.

(2) Buddy of mine had never seen a single Stanley Kubrick film before, and last night we decided to rectify that. Out of the options Dr. Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket, and A Clockwork Orange, he chose A Clockwork Orange.

(3) Watching it again for the first time after after many years made me reevaluate why I like it so much. It is weird, extremely violent, and all in all not all that pleasant to watch. It is filled with some pretty ridiculous and cheese ball stuff too, both a sign of its age, and Kubrick's quirkiness. After it was over, my friend's first response was, "That was really good." Ultimately what makes the film is the themes it examines (not to down play how impressive the film is aesthetically). Rehabilitation, conditioning, youthful deliquesce, etc.

(4) I have always had a hard time giving numeric ratings to things. They never feel genuine, because I can easily see myself assigning a different number from one day to the next, depending on my current thought process. I also tend to feel tempted to give things I really like full marks, when in reality almost everything has room for improvement. A Clockwork Orange is really good at being what it is, the only case I can make against it is that I felt Kubrick should have included the book's final chapter, which touched on the theme of maturity, which really fit with the theme of not being able to treat something organic as if it were mechanical, and brought the whole thing to a great conclusion. 8/10

This makes me sad.  You're missing out on some great films.  Like Backstroke of the West.

But seriously, it makes me sad.

At any rate, I just watched the filum...

1) Waterworld

2) Just got it on blu

3) I enjoy this movie despite most people thinking it sucked feral stinky-dinkins balls.  It's a combination of the the boat and the foxy lady.  Not to mention that blue looks pretty good in blu.

4) 7/10.  Yeah, it's a 3/10 as a movie, but the boat and the lady give it four more points.

Im hearing that a Lot lately..

Thats a great start to what i'm hoping to achieve from this thread though. Opinions of new films like the new Harry Potter. Slightly older films like Waterworld. Down to classics like A Clockwork Orange upon your first viewing experience. Brief, or indepth comments make the thread do its jobby.

Any film good or bad should be included, if you feel inclined to comment/vent about it..

It's funny... the special features are crystal clear and in vibrant colour.  The movie itself looks fine... but not any better than the DVD of the same looks.

Yes, yes, i cant spell shit okay...Hence, the edits :-)

Dont morf the tread. Actuallay, my wireless keyboard has been going gung-ho on me lately too, to add to my pain!

(1) Tyson the movie

(2) Its a modern take of Rocky Marciano, and Mohamed Alis claim of fame.

(3) I turned Tyson off as i thought it was a filum of Tyson, not a doco with the man himself, with an obscure actor playing the lead. I'll watch it again, when im in the mood for a doco.

(4) waiting a ratin

Although its interesting to see modern grainy 1080p images next to poor quality pictures of yester year. And too see a monster crying.

Hey, i just seen the Wolfman trailer and it looks kind of of good, as does all the latestst garbage.

*sigh*

1.) Citizen Kane

2.) Hollywood and American Film Class (Yes, I have never seen it before don't make fun of me)

3.) Welle's Cinematography, Editing, Sound Design and Storytelling techniques were all incredibly bold for Hollywood at the time, where movies were put out by studios in an often cookie cutter style and the director didn't have too much artistic control. The film is overall excellent and absolutely stands the test of time. Greatest film of all time? I'm not sure I'd give it that. It was certainly like nothing I've ever seen before but the plot didn't resonate with me emotionally as much as other film's Iv'e seen in the past.

4.) Verdict: 9/10, but who am I to judge Citizen Kane?

You know, Citizen Kane was spoiled for me thanks to the innumerable references to it made throughout pop culture. I could not begin to appreciate it.

I watched Hollywood Homicide, because I'm rewatching Harrison Ford movies. It was better than I remembered it. Ford was low key but good. The film isn't much of anything but it's good-natured and Ford makes it work if you pay attention to his acting. I'd give it a 5 maybe. Next film up is Thief with James Caan.

I agree with the view that Waterworld is underrated. But I think Citizen Kane is overrated, though Orson Welles did a good acting job in it. I don't share the opinion that modern film is crap. Some modern film is crap and some is good. And plenty of older films are crap, including many hailed as great classics (Raging Bull comes to mind -zero humanity in that thing). I don't buy the view that there was this golden age of film that's gone and that modern film is now all useless. I'm actually kind of fed up of hearing that modern film is crap. Sure, we've got crap like Transformers 2 and Gi Joe and Avatar, but we've also got films like Hurt Locker and Bronson and Harry Brown and Gran Torino.

Wheres your numbers VINH, as in, (1) (2) (3) (4). I suggest an edit. Besides that the treads doing its jobbie. Keep it up u cunts.

Nice one with he Harry Brown plug, as that beats Avatar for me aswell. Have you seen the Waterworld edit here as its awesome?

Why do I need numbers? It's easy to see what I'm saying despite the lack of numbers. Numbers makes it look like it's a fucking exam. I don't like exams.

Also, where I come from "jobbie" means a crap. I hope this thread isn't doing one, at least not on me.

Btw, nice avie. I always thought the royal guards (shouldn't they be "imperial guards") looked cool, but I wondered how they turned their heads.

Like your style there Frink. As it makes me laugh, and im a missrable filum hunting fucker.

Waterworld was over-rated upon its release, then got slammed because of its budget alone. There is actually a good filum underneath the media hype at that time. Avatar.....urm, urm, urm. Its a promo for the 3D wave we are about to get bombarded with....Let us all sit in our front rooms wearing stupid looking fucking glasses in a time not to far from now....

Anyone cought Wolfman yet out of curiosity?

Im off to watch the Godfather now..

Review to follow.
