Hey guys, i had a couple of days off with nothing to do, so i played around with Daredevil. This is an edit i’ve wanted to do for a while, as Daredevil is one of my favorite Marvel characters. I always found the movie to almost be really good, with a few little things detracting from it. i tried to fix as many of these things that bothered me as i could. I used the director’s cut as the basis.

Here’s the rundown:

  • Shorter running time (1 hr. 56 min.)
  • The opening scene of DD in the church is removed. The film begins with Matt in the court room with Quesada.
  • Origin story is spread out throughout the film and is much, much shorter.
  • The Matt/Elektra playground fight is a lot shorter and a lot less ridiculous.
  • The Kingpin’s hip-hop introduction is cut.
  • That horrible CGI shot of DD kicking Bullseye is a lot shorter.
  • That horrid Evanescence song is removed from the Elektra training scene. It is now replaced with “Session” by Linkin Park, which fits the sequence very well. Before everyone moans about Linkin Park, this song is instrumental.
  • Most of Matt’s voice overs are removed, except for the stuff towards the end.
  • This is kind of trivial, but it always bothered me: When Ben Urich hits delete on his keyboard to erase his story, he taps it once and erases the whole story, rather than holding it down. I have now changed it so it looks like he holds the button down. It’s stupid, but it always annoyed me.
  • A few little cuts and trims and re-ordering of shots, to keep the pace and make everything work.

This is a simple edit, but i think it helps the film quite a lot. It’s now more along the lines of a “Batman Begins” type of Superhero movie, now that i’ve removed a lot of the more “Batman & Robin”-esque moments. Should be up on Demonoid within the next few days. I hope you enjoy it.

Again, I’m stil trying to get Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Matrix Reloaded Extended to work, but i just keep hitting tons of problems. These projects do not want themselves to happen!

Sounds cool. I spent a good deal of time doing an edit of the film last winter. Can't say I was completely happy with my version, so I look forward to checking this one out. Is this cut finished or are you still open to suggestions? Either way, I'll just post a few additional bits that I ended up cutting that I didn't see listed, but maybe you already got them.

I trimmed down Coolio's role a bit. Just a few moments of him looking stupid during his introduction. I then ended up cutting the scene that I believe plays before Elektra's dad's funeral with Foggy defending Jackson without Matt. It didn't really feel right in the context of the story. It's more of a slapstick scene in the middle of a very serious turn in the story. Also cut some of Foggy's antics when he and Matt are in the girl's apartment. I also removed Kingpin's line about being from the Bronx. Just silly. I think I played around with Bullseye's intro. I removed his plane scene (a fun scene, but is it necessary?) and shifted his airport one into its place by deleting the unnecessary "Midnight Cowboy" reference. I also cut things like the "Fight Club" reference, which also felt silly.

Anyway, it sounds like you did a good job. When I did mine I lacked skill, so I was never able to remove the voiceover or do convincing fades, etc.

i forgot to mention i ditched the bronx line as well. I'm considering removing foggy's courtroom scene before the funeral, though i do quite like it. maybe if i can find somewhere else to put it.

i think that the theatrical version had a lot of different material than the DC, should any of that footage be utilized?

Gotta admit -- I liked the theatrical cut of this. I've watched the DVD several times and enjoy it as it stands, esp. Bullseye.

I only have the directors cut which to me was better than the theatrical. One thing that bugged me was when Ben Urich looks at the flaming DD symbol and it's not reflected properly in his glasses. They should be reversed as a true reflection should be. I know the director's reasoning, but it's still kind of wierd looking. I'll look forward to seeing this.

Ya, i ran out of space on my hardrive so i couldn't even finish downloading the whole thing, i had the whole movie, it's just that random blcoks were green and other weird colors, but i skimmed through the movie and all of your edits are great, this is one of those edits where people can look at it and truly say "This is how the movie should have been in the first place!"

I got this the other day. I skipped around, through it, last night, and found several of the edits. Very clean, seamless, if I didn't have the cheat sheet I'd be thinking "I don't remember this scene moving along this well." I caught one of the flashbacks, too. It's a real improvement.

It's going up in the newsgroups, now - a.b.dvd & a.b.dvd5, with the nzb also in a.b.nzb.

One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.

 

Download  shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).

It's a pretty nice edit. I like how you cut down the playground fight. Wish I'd thought of that.

My only complaint is with the music replacement scenes. It sounds like you cut out the soundtrack and put some songs in so there aren't any sound effects or anything. It makes the scenes feel a bit weird, but I understand it's not an easy thing to do. Anyway, good job.

i wish the sound effects were right, but i had to cut that Evanescence song out. if i heard it one more time i was gonna punch an old woman.
