ArG!
why are they re-releasing Saving Private Ryan???

never thought Spielberg would stoop that low...
idiot!! lol

Another thing i wanna mention is how kick ass the movie Underworld was! That movie is now one of my faves... i expected some cheesy stuff from what word on the street was. But wow did it ever exceed my expectations.
Anyone else agree?

Being rereleased for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion (sounds like good reason to me -- do note the sarcasm). Also going to part of some box set of war movies.

I didn't really like Ryan; there are better war movies out there.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

This new version looks better. True there are better war movies but Saving Private Ryan is still a good bloody movie.

UNDERWORLD WAS GREAT. IT WAS BASED ON VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE AND WEREWOLF THE APOCALYPSE WHICH ARE THE TWO PARTS OF A REALLY COOL ROLEPLAYING GAME. IN FACT, I USED TO DO LIVE ACTION ROLEPLAYING OF WEREWOLF THE APOCALYPSE IN LAS COLINAS, TX. IT WAS COOL. THE CITY GAVE US FREE ROAM OF THE DOWNTOWN AREA FROM DUSK UNTILL DAWN AS LONG AS WE DIDN'T CARRY WEAPONS (REAL OR FAKE) OR DRESS UP TO WILDLY.

Thin Red Line was a fantasic war movie...
I still have to check out some other movies which i heard were good... ie. tears of the sun, windtalkers, we were soldiers, black hawk down, pearl harbour....
i dunno i guess these just dont appeal to me that much but can anyone offer me some info if they've seen them...

lol

Luke, if you don't wanna watch a POS, then here are my suggestions with regard to your list...

Tears of the Sun - run away
Windtalkers - heard nothing but bad stuff about
We Were Soldiers - haven't seen it but heard it was, at the very least, decent
Black Hawk Down - great friggin' flick
Pearl Harbour - avoid like the plague if you want realism (been reading Flyboys lately and it tells the true account of the bombing of Tokyo that followed Pearl Harbor and it was nothing like the film - couldn't even get basics like the weather right and totally negated the fact that Jimmy Doolittle flew with them as well as the fact that no American crew members were shot on the ground after crashing -- 8 were captured and 3 of those 8 were executed by firing squad later on while the other 5 were rescued.)

Add these to your list instead... Tora! Tora! Tora!, Midway, Tigerland, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Legends of the Fall (the war stuff is a small part of the film, but it's incredibly well done by Ed Zwick), Glory, and The Last Samurai (it can be considered a war flick of sorts).

I also enjoyed Enemy at the Gates about the Battle of Stalingrad in WWII.

I, too, wasn't a huge fan of Saving Private Ryan. Liked it a lot the first two times I saw it, but the more you think about it, the more ridiculous it gets. Watch the first 20 minutes and then stop the DVD.

I agree with Bossk on the list, but I must add one that is an atypical "war" movie: Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Henry V.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Haven't seen The Big Red One. About the First Infantry (or is it Airborne, I can't remember) in WWII, right?

The Big Red One is also a solid war flick. Samuel Fuller was a very underrated director.
