IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MAC AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH LOSING MY INTERNET CONNECTION AT THE WRONG TIME. I CAN'T DO MY SOFTWARE UPDATES WITHOUT THE FEAR OF LOSING MY CONNECTION AND ONLY GETTING A PORTION OF WHAT I NEED. I'M GOING TO SWITCH OVER TO CABLE DSL IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS.

I've got a T1 at work that I use to type here. I'm on dialup at home. That's why you don't see me online on weekends that often.

Yes, but my checking account doesn't. We hardly go online from home and when we do, it's to check e-mail. So why pay for it? We might do so when we actually get a desktop computer. Right now, we've just got a laptop and we can hookup anywhere we want because we have phone jacks in every room (save for the bathroom). If we get Cable, we suddenly have to tote another piece of hardware and not every room in our apartment even has a cable connection to use. DSL is not available where we live. Not yet at least.

I can understand that. We just have a desktop and it's parked right next to one of the phone jacks, with a DSL modem on the desk. Works out nicely, and makes the wife happy 'cause she can go on the Zone just about any time she wants.

Heard of it, yes. But it's not big here in the States. Wouldn't even know where to get the hardware.

haha... thats one thing we're ahead of everyone else in sweden and denmark... its broadband!

the business school in my neck of the woods has installed such a strong IR broadband network, that people that live less than 500 metres from the school can tap into that for a trivial amount of money... i live a little over 1 kilometre from that school, so none for me, but still... there are many students that have it. and its a mother of a downstream/upstream connection.

DIRECT TV NO LONGER CARRIES INTERNET SERVICES. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I GO TO GETDWAY.COM TO GET SATELLITE INTERNET SERVICE. THE PROBLEM WITH THAT IS THE COST. IT'S $700.00 JUST FOR THE EQUIPMENT THEN $100.00 A MONTH FOR THE SERVICE. I EVEN TRIED SBC YAHOO DSL, BUT WE CAN'T GET THAT SERVICE IN MY AREA WHICH MEANS THAT I'M STUCK WITH EARTHLINK. I DO HAVE TO SAY THOUGH THAT MY CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN BETTER THAT PAST FEW DAYS.

Yes, some people do. Like me. And Dayv. I feel your pain, man. But at least my SBC Yahoo dialup has been fairly reliable with very few dropped connections as of late.

No problem with dial-up here (and I use AOL).
The original Star Wars trilogy: Our cultural history deserves to be preserved and should be available to the public like all great works of art!
