I am just about finished with editing and compiling the video for my ROTJ fan edit... but I am baffled by how to get the subtitles back, or create new ones.
Obviously, the altered running time of alternating between LD and DVD footage has messed up the original subtitle stream. So does anyone know a relatively painless way to create a new subtitle track for Star Wars?
Could any one of the video geniuses out there do me a huge favor with my edit?
I need video clips of every shot with alien subtitles, with the subtitles burnt into the actual video itself. I fear this is the only way I'll ever complete them. I have TPM completely done, and have been racking my brain (and google) trying to add subtitles. But this way I can plug them in and have them be burnt in.
Can anyone help me out? It would be a massive help to my "phantom edit lite" saga. I'm not changing much of the prequels, just trimming and adding a few things to make it better without changing the nature of the story. For this reason, they are interchangable. One could watch any one of my edits with the rest of the 'regular' DVDs. No story elements are changed except how they are presented. (So yes, midichloians and virgin births are still present. I'm not changing the actual story.) And with the OT, all that will be done is alternating between DVD SE and original (and 'original SE').
If at all possible, could the font for the subs be Eras Demi? (the font from the SE laserdisc, also used in Darth Editous's ANH)
And I'll also need burnt subs for the AOTC deleted scenes with the Geanosians.
If any editing geniuses out there who could help me would do it, I would be forever in your debt. Otherwise.... my edits may never get off the ground!! And all over something as stupid as alien subtitles...
Hal, if you're happy utilising image sequences and the like, I could probably modify my subtitle-creating program to read a script and apply subtitles to the frames you specify. PM me or email me if you want to know more.
