I’ve put together a new and improved version of this! In hindsight my original release was a mess, so I started from scratch. I’ve expanded it into a 2 disc version, with the cues being unedited where available, and presenting about 40 minutes of bonus content. Until the legal shenanigans that keep the score from being released are sorted out, this as definitive a collection as it’s going to get.

Notes:
-The tracks ripped from the 5.1 channel (marked with *) contain SFX and some reverb’d dialogue. The editing is that of the film, which might not match the way they were composed. I’ve decide not to further tamper with them.
-Track titles for stock music have been left “as is”, to differentiate them from the recordings that are exclusive to the film.
-Disc 2 tracks 14, 15 and 16 are from Nicolai’s “Tempo Sospeso”, and were the basis for some of Caligula’s themes.
-Disc 2 tracks 19 to 28 are Franco Mannino’s rejected cues. “Wood Sequence” is ripped straight from the film’s alternate cut, hence why it has dialogue at the beginning and end. The remainder of those cues are found from the DVD/BD’s extras. Most of them are unidentified, and a few of them appear in truncated form.

Hi there!

I’ve been working on this for quite a while. While the Imperial Edition DVD was slated to include an additional disc with the film’s music, this was eventually nixed. Fortunely many of the unreleased cues were used in the behind the scenes reels, so assembling them cues in film order wasn’t that much of a problem. This doesn’t include the whole score, so I had to rip a number of the cues from the film’s 5.1 track, with varying degrees of success. Pierre Arvay’s “Les Damnes” was taken from the DeWolfe LP “Images Symphoniques”.

The whole thing runs about 84 minutes, so if you wish to burn this into a CD, you can delete tracks 18, 19, 21, 24 or 37, since they’re simply edits of previously heard cues. This release I’ve put together corresponds to the unrated theatrical version, the Italian cut “Io Caligola” has a few differently scored scenes, and of course there’s plenty of unused material, as well as the infamous “We are One” song that was used to promote the film; but all that I feel is material for a different release.

Enjoy this weird Frankenstein of a score; with Bruno Nicolai’s original compositions, and the highly innapropiate ballet pieces that were used to make the film “dramatic”.

I somehow really like the score of that movie. I have a German bootleg release with a soundtrack CD, but it is far away from being a complete score.
Thanks for the effort. I would appreciate a link, too.

Ah man, I remember that theme music, thinking “Woah, it’s The Apprentice!” (the one with Lord Sugar, that is.) Thanks!

Worst May the 4th EVER.

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

Thanks IsanRido.
The Soundtrack really sounds great. I really love the Music, even if I do not watch the Movie very often. (Somehow it is not that good movie for movie watching evenings with friends, and their girlfriends or women…)

Hi!
Is it possible to get the Caligula compilation from you?
Regards.

Hey! Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a detailed list! I’ve been looking for the soundtrack everywhere but can’t seem to find it. Would it be plausible to get a copy from you?

Or at least any guide on how to do it from the DVD that I have?

It should be noted that some of Nicolai’s tracks that were previously 5.1 rips have been identified. I don’t have the time now to update the compilation, and I’d only do so if can update the other cues.

However, if people are interested the tracks in question are:
-Track 9 is “Contorni” from Contrasti (MPS 3002).
-Track 10 is “Ombre E Riflessi” from that same album.
-Tracks 12 and 13 are “Sfida Romantica” (again from Contrasti) and “La Salda Rocca” from L’Arma Meravigliosa (NLP 103 - NLP 104). I was wrong to present them as separate tracks, since “La Salda Rocca” is one continouous cue.
-Track 25 is “Inno Sacro” and “Aulos” from Mythos (MPS 3005).

Are you interested in the current, far from perfect version, or the WIP that has the recently discovered tracks?

In retrospect, I was wrong to identify this as complete, sorry.

The only thing I have is a FLAC CD Rip of the 2-CD release by Bayres (Catalog Code CDCR023) and I’m looking for any material that isn’t already on this release.

Well, the Bayres release it a bootleg, and lazy one at that 😦 Judging by the track titles I was under the impression it was the leaked promo score. As it turns out, it’s simply the cues from the Imperial edition extras, presented exactly as they appear there. Don’t waste your money on it 😉

I almost ordered it, thanks FulciLives!

Anyhow, head over to the main post.
