So, I hate to be the one to ask this but...

The 'Sounds of Star Wars' Book

Is this allowed?  Shouldn't everyone...you know...buy the book themselves?

If nothing else, you probably should remove the direct link per the rules.

EDIT: Read 12b of the full rules.  It seems pretty clear that you're not supposed to link to the book files.

The sound elements are separate from the book in the same way that sound elements are separate from the games and the soundboards.

I imagine it therefore would fall into the same sort of realm as music preservations and fan edits.

Which is why I suggested compiling the archive and putting out disc images, the usual fanedit/preservation call to own the original material where available before downloading them would bring it in line with similar projects.

Well I can certainly remove the links, but what is the alternative in that case? Would seem a bit silly creating a pif chain just for some sounds....

I'll take the links down.

The final archive could be uploaded in the same way fanedits are a PIF chain is only one distribution option.

It's no more silly than doing the same with otherwise unavailable music scores or fanedits derived from video game elements (in other words not silly).

I can understand that, however everyone knows fanedit.org and fanedit.info. :p

My archive would have to be hosted elsewhere.

It could be directed to via PM without having a direct link here or needing to pass the often confusing strictures of another place.

Enough people here straddle more than one site, if someone was looking for isolated sounds either here or elsewhere they could link to whichever places you decided to host it on.

Over time I'd imagine it would be hosted in more than one place and posted up by more than one person so if a host site went down it could bounce back to the surface.

Heck! This archive could even be the beginning of a new forum for project resources.

These sounds could be used by fan-editors, documentary makers and people making fan-films or fan audioplays.

If people put up threads with isolated explosion video or isolated model elements and the like it could be a real help to people making all manner of projects and they could be distributed in the manner I describe.

brash, I would think you could leave the soundboard link up.  Those sounds aren't from a commercially available source, and really anyone could record them easily if they wanted to.

Brash,

I zipped the files together but it's nearly 1 gig.  The file host that I use won't allow me to upload something that big.  When I find a place to upload it, I'll let you know.  If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Brash,

I sent you a PM with a link to where you can download it from.  If anyone else is interested, send me a PM and I'll give you the link.

Well at the moment I'm just gathering all the effects I can (helped along by a few members of this forum). The computer game sounds archive will take the longest as there are so many to sort through - a lot of duplicates to delete so that I'm only left with the superior versions.

I've not had a chance to work on anything in the last week as I've been working on my Mac guide to DVD editing.

So, I would really love to use these sounds for my Computer Music 140 project, buuuut I can't find the link on the first post or anywhere. I feel dumb..

Hi ravenholm. I'll PM you the links in a bit. I'm not currently on the computer where they're bookmarked :-)

thanks! Should be a huge help, a bunch of other sources I tried had low quality files, lots of quantization :/

Cool. I'm currently writing a script for a star wars audio drama. this will come in handy during the editing process. keep it up.

PM sent. Sorry about that! You're right, I have been busy!

I wonder if recordings like Alec Guinness reading The Wasteland would also be useful.

There must be quite a few such recordings by cast members where single words or phrases could be sampled and mixed to create variations in dialogue.

I haven't forgotten about this project. I'm assembling this archive for me as well as everyone else on these boards. Because I'm on a Mac, I've decided to also make every archive available in AIFF as well as Wavs.

An updated version of both archives I've done already will be uploaded soon. And I'll be assembling other archives when I can too. I don't want to release a 'game sounds' archive though, and then have to re-release it because I've found more files since, so please forgive me if it takes a while.
