Boycott Episode III!

Author
Time
 (Edited)

Has anyone considered starting a worldwide boycott of Ep. III? We have enough time before te movie to get momentum really rolling and we can let Mr. Lucas know how desperatly we want the original cuts on DVD.

Life is too short to buy green bananas!

Unfortunately, there are probably thousands of people who couldn't care less about the original series for each one of us who do. We're a (very noisy and irritating...) blip on the radar when it comes to any boycott of new Star Wars movies.

The best bet (IMO) is to get LOTS of visibility to the need to preserve the original series from the press, from film critics, and any others in the industry that can bring pressure to bear that Lucas would consider peers he should listen to...

Sorry, as much as I favor the original trilogy coming out on DVD, I can't say no to seeing Episode III. That's tantamount to blasphemy. And I don't want to lower myself to Lucas' current level.

just to inform your on some sad news NileQT87-Solo_Baggins, Lucas has officially annouced that Padme will not die in Episode III. So I think your gonna have to endure her for one more movie.

I don't mind though...

So far as I've heard, scenes with Padme are actually going to be added to the original trilogy as well (primarily in ROTJ I think). That's some of what Lucas wants to do is establish that she's not dead and that Luke and Leia find out who their mother really is or reunite or some such crap.

I wish I could remember. A coworker of mine told me about it nearly six months ago and he can't remember where he read it online. Like I said though, this is a rumor. Not nearly confirmed since nothing is really confirmed about Ep. III. If one of us finds it, I'll post it here.

I have heard the Lucas plans to insert Padme into ROTJ rumor as well.

However it will be a flashback when Leia is talkin to Luke about her mother. She says stuff like she was beautiful but sad... from what I've heard they're are goin to be some inserts at that speech.

But like I said it is a rumor...
hopefully!

I suppose a flashback wouldn't be nearly as bad as actually having her in there as a character. Can you imagine how much they'd have to age Natalie? Yikes.

yeah tell me about it...
however I think even a flashback would be a bad idea...

I mean really.. when has Lucas ever used a flashback?? It just isn't Star Wars... that's my thought anyway.

Well, I don't think it would be a flashback so much as it would be one of those hazy edged memories featuring no more than Padme's face. Okay, not literally hazy-edged, but you get my point. It would be like some kind of quick flash to a shot of Padme's face while Leia says the line about her mom being beautiful yet sad.

Well as long as it isn't a bubble coming from Leia's head showing what she's thinking, then I'll be happy.

Sorry, can't do the boycott. My son (age 5 1/2) would never forgive me. Besides, don't underestimate the power of an online petition. Warner kowtowed when there was an uproar over the pan & scan only release of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. I think our biggest hurdle at this point is finding out if the film elements still exist to do a decent transfer of Episode IV. I hear about copies being stored at various film institutes, but if these are only release grade (grain city), and Lucas didn't make a new element (for posterity)before proceeding with the SEs, we are really screwed!

I like kyote_fields idea, but since most of you are against the idea of boycotting Ep 3 altogether how about just boycotting it for the very first weekend of its release? Petitions do raise awareness but hitting people in their pocket-books drives the message home.

Lucas, as of late, has shown great contempt for his fans with his statement about the dvd release. The only way to get to him, it seems, is by threatening to pull funds from his empire.

This might sound treasonous, but the only times I've ever seen a SW episode on opening weekend were ROTJ back in '83, and Ep II last year, which was mostly for my kids. I had to wait a month for TESB to show up where I lived, and equally long for ANH. Hitting him in the pocketbook on opening weekend is a great idea in theory, but would take immense organisation in practice. Besides, the message could be so easily misinterpreted. I might sound like a pessimist, but I'm a law student so that's allowed.

Not necessarily. Remember that it is still entirely possible that she will be one of the poor unfortunates reduced to steaming bits when the Death Star vapourises Alderaan, right?

Wha?????!

thats terrible, what could be less dramatic then for her to not die? It makes no sense, isn't her death the ideal catalyst to send Anakin completely over the edge? And if she was alive after that why didn't Vader find her??

Its jsut so dumb to have her death unseen, but then again thats what GL did with Obi-wan and Anakins friend ship, and for the most part the clone wars, so for all we know Anakin could be Vader at the start of ep3.

I liked TPM, though it was flawed, but Aotc was jsut embarrassingly bad in my opinion, its such a huge movie, and yet its not about anything, it has no real story at all. and the editting was so poor in some many places, the script so poorly strucutred and executed. Plus Gl jsut laced in music from TPM rather then getting new music for a lot of spots, IMHO that reduced AOtC to being a high budget fanfilm, which is what it felt like anyways.

Oh well, I don't have high hopes for ep3, I don't need it to be ESB good, I just want it to at least be TPM good, and I jsut hope all the continuity works at the end of the PT endeavor, and they don't change vader, I don't want a new and improved cgi vader, I jsut want a guy in a suit, the same exact suit we see in the oT.

Out of curiousity whats the forum rules on spoilers?

I'm just trying to stay spoiler free for ep3 so I was curious, should I be at all concerned about reading them here, or do people have to give warning?

true... who knows what will happen and drive anakin over the edge... yes her death scene would be cool, if she were to die, but lets just wait and see what happens
