Blutopia is also WAY more strict than MySpleen ever was about seeding and invites.

Damn straight; they do not mess around.

He politely asked people to stop asking for Blutopia invites. It is in the Aladdin 35mm thread.

This.

And in order to understand what’s going on here, may I ask for an invite ?

“I have to say that I felt George’s group of six films had more innovative visual imagination, and this film was more of a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you had seen before, and it took a few baby steps forward with new characters.” - James Cameron about Episode VII.

It’s like it’s quite possible that Picasso would have loved to use Photoshop for some of his paintings if it was available back then, but if you take a picture from Picasso and recreate it in Photoshop, it’s not going to be the same picture and it can hardly be used to demonstrate Picasso’s brush techniques.

I have no idea what this thread is, why it needs to be, or why I should care. And I don’t.

It’s almost like you could just… not comment then or something. Weird, I know. But it IS actually possible to simply ignore things you don’t care about or understand and move on with your life without chiming in about every single fucking thing to tell the world how little you care about it. You see, no one cares if you don’t care, so you needn’t feel compelled to let everyone know. Seems like you’re carrying around a heavy burden, feeling the need to leave a snarky comment on every single thread regardless of what it’s about or how pointless and annoying your comment is. Please rest assured, you can let go of that responsibility and everyone will be just fine.

Taking time to write why you don’t care clearly shows you care.

Can someone ELI5 or post a link to same for stuff like “Blutopia” and “MySpleen”. I get it that they’re private torrent tools, but beyond that I don’t understand (and I don’t torrent either, but may have to start to get some of the fan edits I want). What are these “rules” of which you speak?

Torrents work differently than direct downloads. When you download a torrent, you’re not downloading from a site, you’re downloading from other people who’ve downloaded the file (these are “seeders” and the downloaders are “leechers”). As you download, you’re also uploading the parts you’ve downloaded to other leechers. Once you’ve finished downloading, you become a seeder. The more seeders there are, the faster a leecher can get the files, because they can download different chunks of the file from different seeders simultaneously.

The problem with public trackers (like Pirate Bay) is that most people don’t seed. They download the file, then delete the torrent - known as “hitting and running.” This means over time, it’s harder to download the file, as the number of leechers outweighs the number of seeders. Once the last seeder deletes the torrent file, the torrent is dead.

Both MySpleen and Blutopia are trackers you have to be invited to. MySpleen no longer accepts new members at all, invites are disabled. Blutopia gives you “credits” for uploading, and to invite someone you have to cash in some credits. (I think. I haven’t checked into that.)

As for the rules once you’re in, MySpleen requires that you keep your upload/download ratio at a certain level (typically at least 1.0, which means you’ve uploaded as much as you’ve downloaded). In theory, you can get to 1.0 while you’re downloading and never actually seed the completed file.

Blutopia not only has this requirement, they also require that when you download a torrent, you seed it for a full 7 days, regardless of what your ratio is on that download (so if you get to 1.0 after 2 days, you still have to keep seeding for 5 more days). This prevents hit and runs and keeps torrents healthier longer.

Hope that clears some things up. I’m typing this at work so I may have skipped some things.

That works perfect for me. Thank you!

I did some P2P stuff over mIRC about a decade ago which worked in a similar fashion, but predated torrenting. Watched lots of Stargate SG-1 that way. I never really had much trouble getting what I was seeking, but I can see how it could be a problem. It’s definitely a two-way street that demands reciprocity.
