Avengers Assembled "Prequel" (Released)

Thought I may as well make my own thread on this instead of taking over the other thread. As you may have guessed, this is a chronological DVD (sorry no Blu Ray or other HD source from me…) edit of the movies that lead up to the Avengers.

I’ve been working on this every day before and after work for what seems like forever now… I didn’t want to watch Avengers until I had it done, but I’m glad I did watch it anyway. After I watch my project, I’m going to watch Avengers again.

The main differences between mine and the other versions out there is that I’m doing both a full 10 or so hour version as well as a more managable 2-3 hr version. Also, I have some “new” scenes in mine, as well as deleted scenes. Some of you may not like these, but you know what? Hit the “skip” button if you don’t wanna see them. I’m also going to remove the after credits scene from Captain America, due to the scene being in the Avengers movie.

I’d say I’m 90% completed now, basically just need to look at some deleted scenes from Disc 2 of the Target 3 disc Incredible Hulk I have. I already have the Alternate Opening, Ross and Blonsky going into more detail about the creation of the Hulk and some bits in Brazil. I also have the alternate opening for Iron Man 2 (with the helmet kiss from the trailer) and a couple other deleted scenes.

“New” scenes:

Birth/ early childhood scenes of Bruce Banner and Tony Stark taken from other movies. It’s only like 2 min worth of footage that transitions into the extended origin of the Hulk (scenes from Hulk mixed with scenes from Incredible Hulk) and then (a shorter version of) the desert scene from Hulk before he runs off to commit suicide in the arctic before settling down in Brazil.

For the Iron Man scenes, I may try and do this as well:

Iron Man voice- You only hear it once or twice in Iron Man but I thought the modified voice that came from the suit was much more fitting of the character than the lightly tinned RDJr voice.  I’m sure there are half-a-dozen people reading this right now that know exactly what effect and how to use it to make the Iron Man voice sound more like that… Make it so.  (You can make the argument that since Stark’s identity as Iron Man isn’t a secret, he doesn’t need a “secret” voice.  Surely he doesn’t need one for that reason, but it just sounds better.

Here is my final timeline:

Marvel’s Avengers Assemble

965-975

Thor Chapter 1

1942-1945

Captain America - The First Avenger Chapters 1-15 (starting with 1942 scenes)

1969

1971

Tony Stark born

PRESENT DAY

Hulk is created, smashes lab, injures the Betty and her father, goes on the run.

TWO YEARS LATER

Banner still on the run, Ross searching for him, Banner attempts suicide in the arctic, settles in Brazil.

LAS VEGAS, TWO YEARS LATER
Iron Man movie (in order, starting with awards presentation in Vegas)
Spoon_Weilder’s Iron Man 1~~2 transition (he did a great job going from the ending “I am Iron Man” to the Vankos in Russia watching it on TV) I did a… well, I got rid of the credits in the beginning of Iron Man 2.

Iron Man 1 after credits scene (ch. 15)

CAR CRASH THAT TURNS TERRANCE HOWARD INTO DON CHEADLE

SIX MONTHS LATER…

IRON MAN 2 ALERNATE OPENING

Iron Man 2 Chapters 2-4

The Incredible Hulk Chapters 1-7

Thor Chapters 1-4 (again, in order, starting with the corronation on Asgard)

Iron Man 2 Chapters 5-16

Marvel One-Shot - “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer…”

Thor Chapter 5 (mixed with the after credits scene from Iron Man 2)

Incredible Hulk Chapters 8-11

Thor Chapters 6-10

Iron Man 2 Chapter 17 (Avengers Initative)

The Incredible Hulk Chapter 12

Thor Chapters 11-14

The Incredible Hulk Chapters 13-18

Iron Man 2 Chapter 17 (awards presentation)

Thor Chapter 16 (after credits scene)

The Incredible Hulk Chapter 19: (until Banner’s eyes Hulk-ify)

ED NORTON’S DNA ALTERED TO LOOK LIKE MARK RUFFALO

Marvel One-Shot - “The Consultant” (with the full Incredible Hulk scene mixed in)

SEVEN MONTHS LATER
Captain America - The First Avenger Chapter 1 (frozen in ice)
Captain America - The First Avenger Chapter 16 (Rogers meets Fury)

In addition to ripping more deleted scenes for Incredible Hulk, I’m also in the process of trimming the movies down for my probably 3 hour version. I’ve currently got Captain America down to about an hour (at least the scenes in the “past”), without really missing anything.

I was of course going to do a DVD version for the “short” version of this edit and was thinking a single Blu Ray disc would hold the entire project in “long” form in DVD quality. But I don’t currently have a BD burner or player of any kind.

Just to be annoying: Are you doing anything about the 3 different actors that have played Howard Stark across Iron Man 1, 2, and Captain America? ;-)

I thought about that, but no. That one I think we can just call "aging".. like Ewan McGregor to Alec Guiness.

I'm hoping to have this done this week. I have Iron Man 1 down to about 45 mins total (for my short version) and Cap down to about 40 mins.

I like that! I think I'm going to use that (or a slight variation of) for my DVD menu. I'll have to excamine that timeline and see if it's exactly like what I did. I think it's very close. I don't want to this project to look "dated" later, so my edited timeline will base everything on "Present Day" being as the time Hulk was created, then everything before that time will have dates, everything after that will just say, "Two years later", "six months later", etc.

I'm now about 95% sure I will have this done by tomorrow, since it's my day off. Just need to figure out what parts I can delete from "Nick Fury's Big Week" or whatever they called it, to make my "short version".

Supposedly this is the official timeline. I think it's interesting that it focuses on "I am Iron Man" as the lynchpin of the whole thing.

Probably because that was the start of the run of films that lead up to Avengers.

I finally watched the version on Pirate Bay (over several slow days at work).

My one (non technical) issue with it was that Agent Coulson seemed to take a REALLY long time to get to New Mexico.

Any idea if your timeline on that will vary slightly?

If nothing else, 'A Funny Thing Happened...', could probably have been inserted a few scenes sooner, but I don't know how much difference that would make.

DIrishB (the one who's timeline I'm basing mine on) recently updated his timeline based on that official timeline (it is official, it's a scan from a Marvel book). So, I'm in the process of updating mine to reflect that. I'm at work now, but I know we have "Funny Thing" right before Thor DVD chapter 5 (where the one dude pulls up in his pickup, drinks a beer and trys to pick it the hammer. That scene continues as normal (Natalie Portman talking about the constellations and stuff) and chapter 5 ends as Coulson says "Sir, we've found it" (except I used the Iron Man 2 after credits longer version of this scene).

When I get home, I'll look and see how long it takes (in terms of movie runtime between when Coulson tells Stark he's been moved to New Mexico and the Funny Thing short.)

I belive he is driving from New York to New Mexico? What is a reasonable amount of time to drive there?

IIRC the other edit didn't have Coulson go to NM until people were already camping around the hammer and then he put the rest of Iron Man II in (and some other scenes) before getting to A Funny Thing... then immediately having Coulson arrive (no scene between the two).

It felt really odd time wise.  Sounds like your way will be better.

I can't believe I sat through all of this a few days ago, and still can't wait to see your take.

Google Maps clocks it at around 2000 miles/34 hours, so depending how many hours he put in per day and the exact starting and destination points, you're looking at 3 to 4 days of driving.

Unless he catches a ride on the helicarrier and rents a car in NM. ;-)

That does make sence actually, considering the NM plates. Where is SHIELD headquartered?

Sorry for the delay, I will have this done very shortly. Silly things keep getting in the way, wife, work, etc.

I will have this edit done tonight for sure! Sorry, I was busy getting sunburned on the beach in Cocoa Beach, FL and attending a wedding there as well. I also went through the torture of swimming with dolphins, indoor skydiving, Disney World, Sea World and visiting the in laws and my wife's friends near Orlando. Seriously, it was fun though.

Anyway, I am now back in Ohio (where it's just as hot, if not hotter this weekend, going to be in the 100s I guess) where i will work non stop to finish this edit today, so I can watch it with my wife and her parents (who are driving from Florida tomorow) before we take them to see Avengers in the theater (hopefully it's still playing!).

Oh and I did come up with audio for my "extra scenes", I'll let you guys decide if it's ok or not when you watch it. The two scenes (Howard and Norton turning into Cheadle and Rufallo) are pretty cheesy I suppose, but they work well enough for me.

I'll just post the premise here:

Col Rhodes is in a hurry to try out that War Machine armor that he ends up crashing his car on the way to Tony's. He is injured so badly that plastic surgury is needed.

Bruce Banner sees a different mirror reflection due to Dr. Blue's experiments on him.

OK, so it's done! Sorry for the hold up. I've got it down to about 5 hours: two 2 1/2 hour parts. That's about half of what the full movies would be at around 10 hours. I can't seem to find any more to cut out. Haven't had a chance to sit down and watch this yet but I will watch this with the family tonight, then we'll watch Avengers again probably tomorrow.

Not yet, sorry. Ran into a little snag because we are in the middle of moving into our first house. We should be in around the first week of September and I should have it posted around that time.

Thanks for the interest!
