Avatar situation (old news for new members)

The avatar upload is broken. While I was previously accepting avatars via e-mail for manual upload, a basic version of the new forum software will probably go live sometime in the next two weeks, so manual uploads have been halted.

The new forum software will have a functional avatar upload. It will also feature truly unique avatars; images you upload won't be shared with other members (unless they steal it, which will be against the rules).

Jay, will you automatically upload the custom avatars that many of us have already been using for some time? Or will we have to reupload those using this new software?

Nobody's avatar will carry over. Only the public avatars I'm creating will be available initially. Custom avatars will have to be uploaded again.

OK so, everyone here who uses a custom avatar, please copy the file to your computer, so you can upload it later...

Jay how about the forum users, will those be migrated to the new one?

User accounts and as much associated data as possible will be moved.

However, passwords will not be carried over. A new password will be generated and sent to the e-mail address you have on file. You'll then be able to change your password after you login.

Obviously, it's essential you have a valid e-mail address on file or you'll be locked out of your account.

I'm assuming that means that we will not be fighting for forum user IDs?

Will our post counts start over?

What kind of forum are you going to be using? vBulletin? Invision Power Board? A different version of FuseTalk? Or are you making a custom one?

It'll be my own little concoction. Not as fully-featured as the current commerical packages at first, but over time it will become fairly robust.

Once it's up, I'll probably post a list of my plans for its development and request suggestions for new features.
