Are you a PC, Mac, or Linux user? What version and why.

Well, I am going to start by answering.

I have been a Windows user my whole life. I have tried everything out there and have always been used to windows.

Windows has that pure tweakability that I like. I used Mac in high school for a Media production class, and hated it. I was never big into Linux, because I never took the time to learn it.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Have to quote, because I couldn't say it better myself.

Well, I got 2 people on my side of the fence already.

I used to get into arguments with this guy about macs and pcs. He used to bring up the blue screen of death at every second and how macs support plug and play.

2 things that are only an issue to a novice. Mac doesn't fully support plug and play. I tried to use my mp3 player with a mac and it didn't recognize it at all. I guess macs are for mac products.

Defend yourselves apple people.

I'm a personal computer user. Whether it be dos/windows, macintosh, gnu-linux, or even Amiga, I'm fine with it and I will use it if I need it. If it screws up, I'll try to fix it. Now, I've never used a mac before, but I've seen a little of how they work, and I see a possibility that I could use one someday.. I don't know when, or why, just for the sake of it.

I use Mac OS X Leopard (10.5), because I need to use Final Cut for school (or so I was told when I bought the computer - still haven't touched Final Cut).

I also have Windows 7 installed via Boot Camp, which I like very much, and use for anything I can't use OS X for.

I don't really take a side.  I like OS X a lot, it's very easy to use, but it doesn't have the wide range of programs/applications for it that Windows does.  If I could do everything I can do in Windows on OS X, I would.

But Windows 7 is pretty awesome ...

Computers suck. Period. The only two things I enjoy about them are music storage and the internet. All of them have their flaws and strengths.

So, indifferent - but currently using Whinedows XP.

I have zero interest in defending myself. I like my Mac, and I fail see why that needs justification.

I hate computers and technology in general, I would be very pleased if they all ceased to exist, but unfortunately that isn't going to happen. I'd prefer nothing over Mac or PC, but in this day and age, fuctioning without a computer makes you essentially non-functional, so I stick with my Apple.

I've been a Windows user since way back in the 3.0 days, cut my teeth on MS-DOS. Followed Windows all the way through the rocky ME to the superb Windows 7. To be honest, I'd love to have a Mac, have contemplated it numerous times. I just can't ever justify the added cost of getting a Mac. I'll probably fold to my geek side and get one someday, but for now I'm really digging my 7! As far as sides, I could care less, I hardly see using one OS over another as an "us vs them" scenario and truly don't understand the mentality that brings about that idea.

I have different OSs on different computers
Desktop with Windows 7
Desktop with Windows XP and 98se
Desktop with Amiga 4.1
Laptop with OSX 10.6.1
Laptop with Windows XP

There is no one perfect OS, you can pretty much do what you want to someway on every OS, some OSs do things better than others, some make it easier than others, and some have more problems than others

That being said, I prefer to browse the net on OSX, torrent on Windows, usenet on both, video stuff on Windows, game on XP and 98se, and just have fun on Amiga

I have no interest in Linux and reading thru tons of forums to get my wireless to work, compiling kernals, talk about distos, take 6 months out to learn a distro just to move on to another distro, or here about how everyone on Linux is an uber leet nerd or whatever

How is using a Mac more geeky?

I just hate Mac commercials... so much misinformation.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

It's lonely out here on the windy limb.  But I don't mind, I've been on this limb for quite awhile. ;)

I've been on Macs for well over a decade and this is where I'll stay.

I've owned several and with a rarity here and there, you just can't kill them.  Plus, it's all we use in my line of work (film industry).  Since I'm not here to start a flame war, will just say I love their reliability & that they're flat out fun to use.  Currently have a MBP running 10.5.8.

Whether it's PC or Mac, I've always felt whatever woofles your tooters is the way to go.

What we have done for ourselves alone, dies with us; what we have done for others and the world, remains and is immortal.

This, except I use Snow Leopard (10.6) and I use Final Cut all the time.

I don't have anything against Macs except their outrageous pricing. You can get the equivalent of a Mac Pro for $1200 in a PC while Apple want $3200 for it. That's the only thing I really have against Apple, but I do love their stuff.

I see this argument a lot and have to assume it comes from not actually knowing what hardware is in a Mac Pro and how much it would cost to configure a PC that is truly identical part-for-part. The dual Nehalem quad core processors in the Mac Pro cost at least $800 by themselves. I'm not sure where you get your parts, but if you can build the equivalent of a current Mac Pro for $1200, you're one hell of a bargain hunter.

The only place Macs consistently lag behind their PC counterparts is in graphics performance, which even I'll admit is annoying. Paying a premium for a graphics card that's at least a generation behind is ridiculous.

Despite this one issue, I've been using Macs for about 5 years now. Best decision I ever made.

Okay, perhaps I mean a computer that can run just as well.

I assumed that ferris was talking about a MacBook Pro (which is what I have, and the $3,200 comment fits with that), for which his statement is pretty much accurate.  You can get a more-or-less equivalent HP laptop for about half to two-thirds the cost of the comparable MacBook or MacBook Pro.

I do, however, agree with you about the Mac Pro, Jay.  Man, I'd love one of those ...
