Just a guage as to the sort of feeling as to who loved the original Jap Godzilla films and to what feelings were on the “Americanised” Emmerich Bros edition of the film. Personnaly i loved the 54-75 films then…damn!

I love the original japanese films and i thought Devlin and Emerich did a good job with their 1998 remake. I never understood what the hell people had against it--HELLO, its Godzilla! Compared to the other films in the series it had the smartest plot, deepest-developed characters and the most thrilling action. I'm convinced that every critic of this film has never seen an actual Godzilla film.

I really fucking enjoyed the 1998 Godzilla. I fell asleep in the cinema during it's initial run (through tiredness or maybe I thought it was boring who knows). But I caught it on TV over Christmas a few years ago. I love it now, brilliant movie. Still don't own it on DVD which is a pisser.

I, myself, found the 1998 Godzilla to be pretty entertaining, awesome awesome effects (for the giant Godzilla)... but it was pretty dumb.. a loud giant monster flick.

But I REALLY love the original Toho Godzilla series! I haven't seen all of them, but dangit! They're fun to watch!
I enjoyed most of the Showa (1954-1975) series because I cracked up on the cheesy G-effects! GO FLOPPY FEET! WOOO!!

By the way... the original Japanese Godzilla is better than the 1998 Ronald Emmerich one...

To be honest, i got so hyped up over the American Godzilla that when i saw it on the opening night, it came as a crushing disapointment which i have still not got over. i LOVE the TOHO Godzilla and was brought up on them from a early age (about 6 years old.)

i was very happy last week as i got a handful of titles which were the remastered TOHO DVD's which English subtitles!

There are English subtitles around for every sci-fi Toho DVD, but they are so darn expensive...

You can get the original Godzilla uncut from UK and Austrialia. Both dvd contains the uncut japanese version. The UK BFI DVD also comes with a commentary which is great.

I have a DVD with both Godzilla (Gojira) With American subtitles and Godzilla Raids Again (the 2nd movie) with Japanese audio and America subtitles

Sorry, I didn't mean it as if English is the 'America' language... I'm just saying that when the DVD was made the subtitles were made in America... I didn't mean any offense

I'm surprised there aren't any Godzilla related restorations or archives going on....figured there would be at least 1 or 2......

Most DVD releases have been fine. Have you tried the Criterion Blu-ray for the original 1954 Godzilla?

I'm getting ready too.  I also read that the Japan Bluray releases had a hold put on them for now and that the HD Broadcasts of some of these movies were nicer looking.  I haven't come across any HD rips to check out yet but I'm gonna try.

I have the 1984-1995 Gojira series as 720p with English subtitles burnt onto a BD25. More for keeping the files as is.

I'm not a fan of any version of Godzilla put on film thus far. I did like the '98 film's animated TV spinoff, though, and the novel series written by Marc Cerasini.

So.....are we just "chatting" about Godzilla or is this thread going somewhere specific....like a preservation of some sort?

I did the restoration of the Japanese version of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA and the fanedit bilingual edition of MONSTER ZERO. And yes, others have done Godzilla restorations and stuff, but nothing really large-scale, like what you guys have been doing here at originaltrilogy. I would love to restore the English versions of all the Toho sci-fi and monster movies with the help of folks on here.

I've got your King Kong vs. Godzilla restoration and it does look great.  I haven't come across the Monster Zero edit yet.  It would be nice to see these older films getting good treatment to help keep the charm they were created with.

Godzilla marathon on 5/17 on Chiller starting at 9 am.  Anyone capable of capping these that would do it?  Maybe there'd be something useful from them?

:)

I love me some '60s Godzilla movies.  The later stuff is ok.  I'll be checking out that Chiller marathon for sure.  There's a ton of Blu-rays being released soon, too.  Not to mention such great projects on the spleen.  It's a great time to be a Godzilla fan.

I have the 4 Sony double pak Blu sets that just came out.  They're great.

I'd love to see a cap of Godzilla 1985.  One of few that hasn't seen any attention outside of LD and VHS.
