Ricar or Chaltab can probably answer this for me...Nausicaa (sp?), is it a single movie? Or is it a series of movies or shorts? Was thinking about picking it up the other day.

Movie.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

And a great series of comics (manga)... if you see and like the film, by all means pick up and read the manga collections. Good stuff.

I haven't read the manga, so I can't tell if it's as good as the anime.

The movie itself is awesome. Especially the part where the English cast is as good as the original (Mark Hamil Uma Thurman and Patrick Stewart in the same film!)

The only bad thing about it is that... Er... I'm drawing a blank.

Thru import, it is. You can pretty much buy anything you want nowadays, it'll be expensive though.

We should petetion Viz or Shonen Jump to publish it. Not that petitions ever work. *points to a certain website*

Shonen Jump is sold over there?

Yeah. Shonen Jump collects anime and publishes them in a graphic novel. Like so many pages for DBZ, so many for Yu Yu Hakusho (Though they've run their courses) Currently Jump is running Naruto, among other thigns. (*Sigh* Yugio Included)

So, let me try to get this straight: Manga is in written form, in Anime style? Yet anime is only animation on tv or movies, correct?

Ooops- hadn't read this read in a few days. Guys, Nausicaa IS available in the U.S. in its manga form. It came out in single comic form many moons ago and Viz collected it into graphic novels about the same time they began to publish Ranma 1/2.

These were the editions I had bought (whick are now out of print but should be available at many comic stores):

Nausicaa Perfect Collections

And it looks as if a new publisher is currently printing volumes at $9.95 a pop:

Yep. I know someone somewhere will (and has I think) write a textbook on the specific differences, but it all boils down to:

comic books = manga

animation = anime

and- LOL- DON'T get the pronunciation debate started! I managed a comic book/anime store for several years and had to listen to the "it's pronounced MON-GUH" arguement way too many times...

No, let me correct you, the JAPANESE Shonen Jump publishes manga series and THESE get an anime version if popular. 65% of anime are derived from manga titles, 20% are original anime works, and 15% are original works that later turn into manga (usually the result of the last one is horrible). What I asked is if there was a north-american version of Shonen Jump.

I know that, I just used the wrong word.

I meant that Shonen Jump collects the original MANGA of popular or soon-to-be popular US Anime Dubs and prints them in a monthly Magazine format.

Oh ok that's the north american version, eh?

What does the Japanese or South American divisions do? I thought it was the same thing.

We don't have Shonen Jump here, we do have manga compilations. You see, a manga series is released first in a manga series magazine like Shonen Jump, and then it's released in an "album" version, with about 8 chapters in each book. We have those here.

The japanese Shonen Jump is where the new manga series get published, it's very ahrd to get your own manga series published on Shonen Jump. The most popular ones are turned into anime, some are not.

The american Shonen Jump, from what you've said, is merely a collection of popular manga, not exactly the "translated" version of the original Shonen Jump.

Pretty much. You think Manga would actually premeir here? Hah!

Also, the anime often has an effect on the translations; sometimes certan things like name spellings and the like are often matched up with the show. (DBZ in Shonen Jump used to spell the name Kuririn, but I believe it changed to Krillin. I could be mistaken, but I know it happened with certain names in One Piece)

On the topic of one piece: Has any one scene the US dub of One Piece. I've heard good things about the show, so I tried it.... but the voices and the like were so terribly butchered I couldn't take it. And they did what Funimation did with GT....

The theme song is now in Hip Hop/rap style. *cringes*

One Piece is an anime that even the japanese cast did a bad job dubbing it, so... it's unbelivable... I can't watch the anime, I only read the manga.

BTW, the american shonen jump reading is right to left oriented? Over here every manga - and even some regular local comic books - are right to left.
