In answer to the topic, this is mostly my purist side talking but older Anakin plus it looks less awkward when put next to the ghosts of Yoda and Obi-Wan.

I watched the prequels first, so I would think there was some random guy as a ghost. See my point? P.S, victory celebration is so much better than yup nub. (Stupid spelling corrections!)

Even when you see the guy unmasked moments before you would think he was some random guy? No one had any problems knowing who he was for 21 years before lucas decided to screw with things. Has the human race become so dumb that they couldn’t still figure that one out?

Ahem. It’s My opinion, not yours. And I know he was burned in 3 so I know its anakin when he was unmasked.

So then you wouldn’t have had any problems knowing who it was when he appeared as that same older person a few minutes later at the end then

But… I give up.

When’s something gonna happen?

If you change the perspective a bit, Anakin became good again. After throwing the Emperor to save his son, that’s quite a good deed. Even though he may be 100% Dark side, he still has good in him. So the random guy smiling and creeping us out is Hayden Christensen and the OUT-perspective force ghost in Lucas’ “original idea” (which then was replaced with a peverted force ghost, Good job Lucasfilm.) is Sebastian Shaw.

Very nice to hear this! It’s also my favorite version of the ending. Q2 recreated this ending in HD for his hybrid edit of Return of the Jedi. You should check it out. I used his ending (the 1997 ending) in my edit. Sebastian Shaw as Anakin and Victory Celebration music 😃

Sebastian Shaw Force Ghost as it just makes more sense in every way.

Well my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

I agree. Anakin was like 50 at that point so yeah.

Exactly, makes the most sense. Especially since, Anakin was still ageing in his Vader suit. The Dark Side will twist, corrupt you, but doesn’t inhibit you from ageing. Also, once they learn how to Force Ghost, they can choose how they want to look like.
Older Anakin wouldn’t want to appear as his younger, whinier self, because he realised how annoying he really was.

Finally, Luke wouldn’t know who was standing next to Yoda & Obi Wan.

Why does this thread exist? Young Anakin makes no goddamned sense! Sebastian Shaw force ghost is the only appropriate answer. Everyone else can suck it.

Sebastian Shaw as the ghost of Anakin is correct to me because it validates his redemption. He does not revert to a younger self because he has been redeemed and dies as Anakin Skywalker, not Darth Vader.
With the possible exception of adding Vader’s “Noooo” to ROTJ, and an honorable mention to Jedi Rocks, this change is the biggest example of a lack of perspective on Lucas’ part when returning to his films from decades prior.

My stance on revising fan edits.

If Lucas was dead set on making a change to Shaw’s force ghost, I would’ve preferred that Lucas kept Shaw’s face, but gave him the darker Jedi robes from the prequels. Maybe make Shaw look a slight bit younger, since Anakin was only like 45 years old when he died.

So tonight I decided to show my old man the comparison videos that are on YouTube just to give him an idea of what was changed. When this change popped up he…well let’s just say he gently tossed my iPhone aside, got up, and walked away hehe

Impscum, did you grow up on the 97 SE or something? That can be the only explanation for your hard on for those awful edits.

Although I had probably seen OOT sometime before (without remembering much), I essentially grew up with 1997 SE. Nevertheless, I can point out what changes are good and what are awful. There are certainly awful ones (Jedi Rocks, etc.), but celebration song change in ROTJ is by far superior to original.

What I think most likely happened is that you grew up on the 97 SE, and you liked parts of the movies and disliked other parts, independent of any other version.

The parts you disliked like Jedi Rocks you quickly accepted as inferior and were eager to replace them in your “perfect version”, but the parts you never had a problem with or enjoyed, like Victory Celebration, remain your preference over the original theatrical releases.

This can be the only explanation for your defense of things like “Alert my Star Destroyer” and nonsense Coruscant edits into the original films.

Victory Celebration is clearly inferior; regardless of one’s subjective musical taste, including shots of different worlds that aren’t even in the movie makes it a terrible edit.
