Interestingly enough I've seen all of Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and The Next Generation. Yet TOS I've yet to complete watching. I guess I feel like once I've done that. That's it. No more Star Trek series for me to watch with completely fresh eyes sort of speak.

What about Enterprise?

A new series that takes the best about TOS and ST09 and sets it in the ST09 timeline might be fun. ST:RECYCLED. Shamelessly take FX and sets and props from the new movies and have a new crew set off on their own while newKirk and the others do their thing.  Shamelessly take story concepts from TNG, VOY, DS9, and ENT and rewrite and reset the best of them. Maybe ppv to keep up production values. Could make it generally understood from the outset that the purpose is to provide a new take on the better concepts and concentrate everything on script and story.

In a sense TNG did that already, as many of the Enterprise sets dating back to TMP were were redressed. And further redressed for Voyager.

Not to mention a couple Phase II scripts got dusted off during the writer's strike for the second season.

I was hoping that was this video by Five Year Mission:

Speaking of them, check out their stuff. They're a band out of Indianapolis that is doing one song based on each episode of Star Trek. It's not a parody band or anything, they're well-written songs covering a variety of genres. Check out Arena and The Naked Time, they're two of my favorites.

Darth_Ender, are you aware that there is a Phase II fan film series that is actually quite well funded and has had some of the original cast members on it? They have used some of the original scripts and designs. It began as a series called New Voyages I think, but they changed it to a re-creation of Phase II halfway into it.

Yes, I actually linked to it in my first post ;)  Thanks though.  I have downloaded their episodes, but I've been so busy that I haven't had time to watch them.  I understand that they may not be the best quality, but I still think it would fun to see the original ship and crew continuing their adventures.

(yes, I even like TFF more than most).

Me too!

I admit it has its faults, but I think it has a real TOS feel to it.  Had the effects been better and some aspects of the story not so super cheesy, much of it was exactly what the original Trek was about, IMO.

Shatner has long wanted to revise TFF and it's FX, but Paramount hasn't been interested in the idea.

Anybody going to the theatrical screening of the remastered TNG epsiode The Best of Both Worlds tonight? I almost forgot about it!

The publicity for this seems to have gotten lost in the shadow of the new movie coming out. I really hope they screen All Good Things down the line.

Oh, I wish I could see it. Today is my last day at this job, so I'm going to be at the office wrapping things up for several hours. I'd really love to see this, as it rivals any of the TNG films in my mind.

The local revival house is screening 2001: A Space Odyssey tonight. Months of nothing I really wanted to go out and see, and suddenly two choices one night only! >_<

I've decided to swear off the TNG screenings. The last one I went to was terrible. So while I love the idea of watching TNG on the big screen, my local AMC (bleh!) doesn't appear to be up to the challenge.

I sympathize, Tobar. When the remastered The Menagerie was screened a few years back, it was played out of the low res projector used for the ads! (Presented in Screendoor-A-Rama) These Fathom events are now thankfully held at the new multiplex in the area. (Where I saw the 48 fps version of The Hobbit.) The Rifftrax show I saw there a few months back was a big improvement too.

My local theater was pretty full. Aside from watching someone fast forward and rewind the Dish Tv DVR at the beginning, (I kid you not) there were no technical hiccups. The crowd was very into it, and the blooper reel brought the house down! My only gripe was the subwoofer booms from that Tom Cruise flick playing next door. It's Sensurround all over again!

The whole evening made me wish I could hang out with some of you guys when Episode 7 comes out. Something to think about...

Maybe my wife and I can find an excuse to visit CA at that time... :-D

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I've been developing a desire to read some Trek novels.  I think they're awesome in that they are not canonical, but you can take them as such if you want.  They're not all obligatory parts of the whole story like Star Wars, and I find that liberating.  I've been thinking of the aforementioned Star Trek: The Lost Years and its sequels (not to be confused with Trek: The Lost Years ;) ), Probe, and Vendetta for starters.  Anyone have any recommendations?

I'm unfamiliar with that title.  Is that in the TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, or ENT setting?

BTW, just talking about The Best of Both Worlds has really gotten me in the mood to experience some Borg.  I'm going to have to pull out my Borg Collective collection and watch a few episodes, topping it off with First Contact.  I don't enjoy the Voyager ones as much because they really sissy-fied the Borg.

I enjoyed the Star Trek Log novels by Alan Dean Foster. He took the scripts to the animated series episodes and fleshed them out into full blown books. Don't know if they're still in print these days.

Some of the DC comics run of Star Trek in the 80's had some wonderful stories. (The very best of which was a tale of how the original five year mission ended and tied into TMP.) When Marvel had the rights briefly in the 90's, they had a pretty good Captain Pike era book.

Yeah I have a bunch of ADF's ST Log books. They were reprinted in 3-book collections in the 1990s, which initially bored me to tears as a ten year old but I have come to enjoy now that I'm older. I have so, so many ADF movie tie-in novels, but they are all so well done. His novelization of Alien is pretty incredible, and his adaptation of The Dig video game was one of the best novels I read as a kid.

You know, even if the Log books are not in print, my dad has several of them and he doesn't live too far.  I remember seeing them growing up, but I never took the time to read them.  Maybe next time I'm over there, I can check if he still has them (I'm sure he does, since he never gets rid of any of his old stuff), he could let me borrow them.  I appreciate the suggestion.  Also, I'm interested in Pike-related stuff, so that book sounds interesting.  I'll see if I can find it.

Alan Dean Foster visited here recently and I missed him. =(

On an unrelated note, how did they manage to make the Enterprise theme WORSE in season 3? The original version I didn't care for but I could understand it. Season 3's is just......ughhhhhhh. Was it done to spite the people who complained about the original? Feels that way.

I saw his name so many times as a kid and never picked up anything till I finally read Star Wars and Splinter of the Mind's Eye.  He is a very talented author and I was really impressed, so the Log books have an added appeal for that reason, as does anything else he writes.  Looks like he wrote the TMP novelization, correct?  I'll have to check these out.
