I understand in the comics superman is a pretty muscular guy, but i dont think thats necessary. He gets his strength from his superpowers not his physical size. its better if he is pretty cut so that you can tell he has muscles when he's dressed as superman but when he's clark he should really appear to be more of a wimpy geek type character.

basically there is no reason for superman to be a body builder. Same with venom. I realize that he should be a muscular guy because thats how he was in the comics and it makes more sense that way. But, correct me if im wrong, doesnt the symbiot add to his muscularness when he 'puts on' the venom costume? If so, then there is no reason why he cant be decently big and then digitally enhanced as venom (since venom will probably be all (at least most) cg anyway.

now if Topher is supposed to be some other villian, who are the actual villians in this one, has it been officially (or unofficially) announced...i forget, then i guess the above applies less, but i still think its a valid point.

He still doesn't have the intensity or range as an actor to channel the character.

The only thing worse than Topher Grace as Venom is Ashton Kutcher as Venom.

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

I'll still cut Raimi some slack when it comes to his casting and filmmaking... and has anything *really* confirmed who Grace will play? There are LOTS of other villains and Raimi seems to be an old-school (re prior to Venom) kind of Spidey fan. Keep in mind he's 40-something and read Spider-man in its original hey-day.

LOOK AT MICHAEL KEATON AS BATMAN. NOBODY THOUGHT THAT HE COULD PULL IT OFF, AND HE DID.

Another great example. Thanks, DAYV. And while we're on the topic of miscasting superheroes and villains, what about the worst two pieces of casting in recent history? I'm talking about Ben Affleck as Daredevil and Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin? Huge mistake there.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Honestly, I really didn't think he made that good of a Batman. He's still Beetlejuice in my book.

I saw both of those movies for the first time around the same time period, but he's always been Beetlejuice for me.

I thought Keaton made a good Bruce "Vain".

I loved the how spider-man 2 caputured the feeling of the comic. And the hardships of peter not just spider-man. That what makes the comic so great.

So they finally decided to discard the classic Spider-Man costume in favor of some "dark" or "bad ass" or "gritty" or "real world" look. What a wonderful world we live in...

Umm, i dont think so. I think this just confirms they are doing the Venom story line and this is the 'costume' (it was really the symbiot, not a cloth costume) that spidey used while he had the symbiot. He had the black costume in the comics too. I used to have (still might have it) a spider man toy that had the black costume.

I thought the black costume (not sure on the comics, but at least in the cartoon and toy) was just straight black and didnt have the same texture/pattern that the red/blue costume did. I also thought it had a white spider symbol that was differnent.

again i note http://www.spiderfan.org/ which im gonna take a look at after i post this to see if i can answer my own question.

*edit* yeah, i was right, you can see some info/pictures on the black costume here

Perhaps I'm just seeing this a little too simplistically but... maybe... just maybe... the teaser image is just in black and white? Maybe not a costume change but a poster style change to make it look a hair different from the previous posters?

Just an idea.

thats entirely possible....but do you really think that hollywood would do something like that just for the stylistic aspect of it.

I guess we'll see.

That does bring up the point though, Have the villians be officially announced yet? and if so who are they? (not the actors but the roles they are playing).

Now back to discussing the black costume

Do you think if they have the black costume they will stay true to its appearence in the comics? I think spidey has been pretty true to the comics as far as costume appearance goes. at least when it comes to spideys costume.

Actually doing my rounds of the movie news websites I see that supposedly someone at Columbia Pictures IS claiming that its a black costume. Hmmm.

well, im not so sure how I feel about it then, i mean it looks cool, but as ive pointed out, its def not how it was in the comic.

I guess i wish they did that instead of just give him the same exact costume just in black instead of red/blue.

just my opinion
