And Boba Fetts original voice too

That too.

Except for the ghosts, those are sound changes, which have little to do with visuals and are easily inserted.

True. I can't see Disney wanting Vader to say "no".

well the 97 version was very crop.  this doesn't seem to be.  It could be original.

looking for HDTV of the  Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

The Emperor in ESB is also the original in the SE

It has always been possible for them to kill three birds with one stone. By that I mean a new scan of the o-neg that would yield the following:

-The '97 SE in its entirety

-The basis for a "final cut" equivalent, and

-The basis for an OOT restoration, assuming the altered pieces of negative were in fact put into storage and can still be scanned in.

I suspect we're only actually getting the middle one (a "final cut" and basis for a 3D conversion). It's interesting how that guy's resumé mentions this project in the same breath as Titanic, since that was also the basis for a 3D version.

Nothing would make me happier than seeing this site, and all our restorations shut down and invalidated overnight because somebody finally did it right, from the very best of materials.

But where would I post my nonsense then?

Until then, however...

You really want to see this site shut down in that scenario? The OOT is the main focus, but it isn't the only thing discussed around here.

Besides, I have no where else to go. ;)

Where were you in '77?

There's still public washroom walls. ;-)

I'd still rather watch the 97 SE than the 2004 and 2011 versions

Same here. No Christensen + Vader not saying "no" goes a long way.

Well 1997 SE doesn't have any PT parasites.

Oh my god, i hope it's finally happening.

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Well, that article says they will be screening a digital print of the '97SE, which would match perfectly what I was saying - it could well be this 4K restoration and they simply restored the '97SE as it was on the re-assembled negative and maybe inserted a thing or two on top of that (we all know from history, that the fact, that they're saying it's the '97SE doesn't mean it really is the 97SE down to the last detail).

I'd take a 4k scan of the 97SE over the 2004/11 any day of the week!

The 97SE has always had better colours to my eyes than the 2004/11 SE.

Oh, definitely - the home video versions of the '97SE had better colors than the 04/11 version - but the colors aren't really a question of the version itself, just the transfer and the subsequent mastering process - they basically did a transfer of the '97SE in 2004  but then they screwed it up afterwards.

That article is just going off of what they read on the Atlanta Plaza's website, but the theater still doesn't even know exactly what they are showing.  They first said it was the "original 1977 version". Then they clarified on their facebook page that it was "Star Wars IV ( 1977 special edition ) released in 1997"

They later posted an update on their website: "Disney officials confirmed that the digital print being provided the Plaza will be based on the Special Edition version which got a wide release in 1997."

Any mention of it being specifically the 97 version has only been used loosely to mean it is the special edition as opposed to the theatrical version.

Will be interesting to find out exactly what it is.

This is just too depressing. :-/

You would think George would want to put out a final version of the OT now (in the next year and a half) before the official continuation happens with Ep7. He can't keep changing it forever. Now is as good a time as any to have the final word on it.

To me, it would be pretty weird to use a dcp of the 04/11 version for this big event in Atlanta, at least for the ticket prices they listed on the website. If it says it's a digital print, that means it's a dcp and not a '97 print.

What did they use for that anniversary screening of Empire with Ford in attendance? Was it a '97 print or a dcp of the '04 version?

The only thing making me think this Atlanta screening might not be a brand new transfer is, well, why would this be the first time anyone sees it? If it were a wide release then sure, it would make perfect sense. But a special screening in Atlanta?

Stranger things have happened, I suppose.

So it looks like news of this is spreading elsewhere.

That article made my blood boil.

Edit: Ah, I misread it. I thought he was advocating they continue to bury the OOT.

Two thoughts.

1. There is no way this is the original theatrical release being restored properly.  If it ever happens, it won't be leaked in some sort of cryptic restoration services ad.

2. It still shocks me that there are people who actually believe Lucas has any say so what so ever in anything related to this franchise. Final cut rights, creative authority, OOT release veto power, etc, etc.

Disney doesn't give someone 4 billion dollars and then allow that person to continue making business decisions for them.  Yet there are people here, in the above article, and all over TFN who think he's still part of the franchise.

When Disney and Abrams say Lucas will be consulted, they're just being polite.

Don't worry. We'll get a theatrical restoration soon.  Disney has "top men" working on it now.

He may be suggesting that Kathleen Kennedy either is a man or is planning to become one. Other than that, I have no clue.
