This is just fucking hilarious! It should be possible to to drive 35 miles per gallon in 2020??? How incredibly fuel inefficient can you make a car. What on earth is the average now? 20mpg?

My 2006 Hummer H3 is getting about 20 - 25 MPG!!! This new 5 cylinder is great! My 1998 Jeep Wrangler {4 Cylinder} is not doing as well as my Hummer on Gas at 18 - 20 MPG. I think that it could be possible to get some cars to around 30 - 33 MPG by 2020, but they sure will not be the sporty Mustang types... And just FYI, I live in Florida {a flat place}. I'm sure if you got hills in your area {Like California} the MPG is going to go down a great deal..

OK, but those are big cars (that Hummer is more like a truck ). How much do the Hummer and Jeep weigh?
I thought this 35mpg was an aim for normal average sized cars.

Edit: Oh btw, what's the fuel price per gallon nowadays (I calculated a gallon would be about $8,25 here in the Netherlands)?

You know, diesel powered vehicles already get this kinda mileage and perhaps even better.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Exactly, that's why that site is so funny. And they think they can do it in about 12 years.

Gas is about $3.30-ish here, which isn't expensive compared to European countries, but just a couple years ago it was coser to $1.25. That's why you hear so much bitching about the price of gas in America.

I don't think any new cars will be totally gas-powered in 2020 anyways. Hybrids will hopefully allow us to get at least 50 MPG or else we'll essentially be forced to use totally alternate-fuel-source vehicles, never mind hybrids, because the mathematics of number of vehicles, amount of oil in the world, and cost of running your car simply won't add up.

i am hoping for the day that they ban all public driving in downtown cores. i.e. Only buses, cabs, limos, etc would be aloud to drive around in manhattin.
i wonder how much fuel would be saved if they put that into effect in every major city in north america.
nice guys finish last

I like how you mentioned limos should still be allowed, because it is important for rich people not to have their lifestyles effected, even if they insist on using one large massive vehicle just to lug one person around in. Personally, I am waiting for the car to become ilegal. They are responsible for far too many deaths, and they are the cause of our oil problem. If only professonals drove, such as highly trained bus drivers or drivers of emercency units such as fire trucks and ambulances, then imagine how few accidents there would be. This would also work a good deal to making U.S. larger, it has grown too small. It is too easy to drive from one end to the next in too short a period of time. I also thing cell phones should be banned. Phone calls from state to state should be more expensive, and the internet ought to be carefully regulated. No one person should be allowed more than 2 hours a day online. This could be accomplished through everyone having their own governement issued username and password they must use when logging onto the internet, which automatically let's authorities know exactly when you go online and when you go back off. If you spend more than a certian number of hours a day you will be arrested and taken to a rehabilitation center where they will brain wash you so you will never want to use the internet again. I think all these things would be steps in the right direction for a perfect world. Think how much fuel the U.S. we would be saving then!

Sometimes I feel like I am one of the last people on earth who still doesn't have a cell phone. Viva la resistance!

I even managed to hold out from buying a TV until this last August. My family had a TV when I was growing up, but when I moved off to college and was too poor to buy one, I found it was kind of nice not having the bloody thing blaring at me all the time. I made it seven years without a TV, only to have my friend give me his old PS2 which motivated me to go out and get one.

My wife and I are actually considering selling the horse and carriage and buying a car sometime soon, j/k
