As a side note to Bossk's comments, I should mention that someone sued GL and 20th Century Fox over the Ewoks. Lost the case, but still amusing.

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

ROFL.

Do you know what legal terminology was used for the suit? How can you sue someone for using their creative license?

They used the Chewbacca defense

If I had actually been following this thread, I would have seen that coming a mile away.

The case was one of trademark infringement. The plaintiff argued that he had sent a copy of his screenplay "Space Pets" to LFL in 1979, which detailed a group of alien beings called Ewoks. Of course, LFL has an office firewall in place so that GL doesn't come into contact with unsolicited material; besides, the judge decided that the two concepts were far enough removed from each other as not to constitute trademark infringement. In short (pardon the pun), the case was laughed out of court.

Besides, I hardly see the whole Ewoks issue as the main plot of RotJ!!

Bah, everybody steals from someone else, like Disney, Disney steals their plots and characters from someone else on every movie they make. If it wasn't for stealing ideas, we would all be using Xerox OS computers (would be the only modern graphic OS), watching Don Bluth cartoons (no Disney around), listening to the beatles (which would be the only major rock band), listening to the Goon Show (would be the only modern comedy show)...

Actually, I better correct that, we wouldn't be watching Don Bluth (i liked that Dragons Lair arcade he created), we would be watching Tezuka. And if you never read/watched a Tezuka manga/anime, I highly recomend you to do so.

So you better start watching some japanese anime. I recomend "Yamato" (I belive it was called Star Blazers on the US), it's from 1974, any SW fan should watch it. I also recomend: Every Tezuka work, specially the Phoenix saga, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, the movie Akira, maybe Ghost in the Shell...

Yamato had a big influence in science fiction and in space battle sequences, but I doubt GL ever knew about it... or maybe he did, didn't he used to live in Japan in the early 70s?

Motti, Tezuka was the father of modern manga and anime...

I believe that star wars borrowed from many places and sources, and you can't say it was just one thing. I don't watch anime that much- except for the Animatrix. "Star Blazers"would be interesting to watch, though.

Exactly. It's how Bob Hope once said, there are only 6 real jokes in the world, and every other joke is an adaptation of one of those 6 jokes.

I'm not sure. They're not exactly 6 jokes, it's more like 6 basic joke plots. I'll try to think about it, and come up with an answer...
