Ah, ok. I just wasn't sure to whose arguments you were referring to. And when it comes to the trustworthyness of politicians around the world, I have to agree with you, Bossk.

I'm from germany and I have to say that I don't have much faith in the political class of my country anymore. No matter what political party you look at over here, it's mostly corrupt and heavily influenced by the demands of the industrial lobbyists.

hitler came to power in '33. his first victims to feel his anger were his political opponents, the communists. when the Reichstag burnt down in '35, the people arrested, charged with and convicted of having burnt it down were communists. they were arrested, charged with and convicted by the GeStaPo (Geheime Staats Polizei - Secret State Police)

the first people to sleep in concentration camps were the following: communists, homosexuals, disabled, terminally ill, writers, painters, poets, actors, intellectuals (when i say writers, painters, poets, actors, intellectuals i mean those that didnt write or paint according to hitler's desire. intellectuals started discussing the Nationalst Socialists' ideas and wondering what could be done to make them better and so on and so on...), etc...

there were no jews to start with, no black people, no asian people... first and foremost it was political opponents and people that could bring hitler's rule in jeopardy.

anyone remember May 10th 1933?

Neither do I. And I'm not an anarchist - I like order and stabilization. But I can't honestly go and vote on some party/politician with a clear conscience. Why?
The point is that political scene in Poland got messed up in mid-1990s, when we all thought that overthrowing the commies (and subsequent death of Soviet Union) had solved all our problems. But the right wing divided itself into small groups arguing with each other (inner quarrels about politics is our national vice). The left wing (post-communists) was not delegalised when it was still the time (because Lech Walesa was too idealistic and too liberal, trusting the nation that the people won't choose old "red spiders" again.) and it started to grow in number as people became dissatisfied with right wing rule. People were naively thinking that we will ZAP! instantly earn as much as in US, that the skyscrappers will grow after the rain like mushrooms and everybody gets Rolls-Royce for nothing. So they turned their faces to lefties and they started they usual job: exploiting their power to make their own little fortunes. Right now we're fed up with both quarreling righties and stealing lefties, the same faces which only shuffle with each elections to Parliment.
Some people are still naive and think that our membership in EU will solve everything. But it is only our work that can change things for better. I'm neither euro-enthusiast, nor die-hard anti-unionist. But EU issue is a story for another thread

Bossk, I think it was either called:

Night of the Long Swords

or Night of a Thousand Swords!

It was as Motti said, to remove all political opposition to Hitler's position of power and ideology. The ethnic cleansing, the "purification of the German people", did not extend to just Jews, Blacks, Asians, Communitsts etcetc as Motti has stated, although they were targeted.

ANY GERMAN CITIZEN THAT COULD NOT PROVE HE/SHE WAS A "PURE BLOOD GERMAN" ie ARYAN, AND THIS HAD TO BE PROVEN BACK 3 or 4 GENERATIONS, WAS FORBIDDEN FULL GERMAN CITIZENSHIP.

They were forbidden to marry, work etcetc. If a full German citizen happened to be married to a "non-German" then they either had to divorce said person or lose their right to citizenship.

I'm sorry. I have school and a rather selfish brohter and can't consistently post.

Look. I have no idea why we don't go after Castro. Seriously. I have been thinking we should go after him for years. I suppose it may be because Cuba poses no threat to us and Castro will hopefully die of natural causes (or smoking) soon. And of course you must think it is because there is no oil in Cuba. It is pretty obvious how you think. So why didn't ANYBODY go afte Castro? I simply can't answer that.

I didnt mean to imply that the death camps were the ONLY reason Hitler went to war, but he continued to fight even after it was obvious he couldn't win. This makes me think that he was simply trying to buy more time to commit his murders.

And I find it quite offensive that you would say I'm sounding like a Neo-Nazi. "Kill people and break things" is what a military is designed for. That is pretty obvious. What other purpose could a military serve. "KPaBT" is just a joke about the way some want to emasculate the military--Make it a goodwill organization rather than a force designed to fight.

Look. I am not "pro-war," and I don't believe in or promote killing those who disagree with me. Those are the people we are fighting against--they hate and kill each other because some say that their leader's should be descendants of Mohammed (the pedophile who started Islam) and some say their leaders can be whoever they want. That is the difference between Shi'ites and Sunis.

We are helping the Iraqis make a government that tolerates diversity for Darth's sake!

And when I say we have a right and a duty to protect our country and any country that is attacked, I mean it. What is wrong with that? I don't understand why you think it is so wrong to make oppressed people free? Why shouldn't we liberate Iraq? Why shouldn't we stop terrorists? And I hope that we liberate Iran and North Korea (or wherever Kim Jong is dictator) but Iraq comes first.

And maybe Iraq was first because we need to secure our oil source before fighting elsewhere. I'm no strategist.

And Bossk, I was asking motti where he lives, not you. You and RRS seem relatively reasonable compared to Motti and Shimraa.

Edit: Dont expect an immediate reply to your replies. I honestly have no idea when I'll beable to use the computer next. It is now 11PM here and I must retire to my bedroom.

Eh? Who and when made America a World's Policeman(TM) ?
Look, I don't even ask you "why US?" - see, I'm a nice guy - I just want to know when, because some 70 years ago you were a xenophobic, isolationist country - where was US help when Hitler went to war in 1939? If you were so worried about spreading communism, then why did you left your best allies to be swallowed by hungry uncle Stalin?

You only help to "spread the Freedom(c)" when it's going to give you big profits. That's why I call all those idealistic terms (such as "War on Terrorism") a bullsh*t.

War is business - plain and simple. It always was.

Well, as for the reason Hitler kept fighting, even after it was obvious that he could not win, is that he honestly thought he could win. Even in his final hours, he had been receiving flase information from his subodinates which was meant to comfort/calm him & instead made him try to hold on to the cause stronger, ordering suicide standoffs for even his perfect race. Right before his suicide he was informed of the truth of his armies, the fact that some had disobeyed his orders and others were decimated. He was only toying with the idea of suicide before that; it was his means of preventing his defeat. He must have completely thought that his arian army could take the world & hold onto power despite preliminary defeats.

I might go on w/ this, but it is late & my bed beckons me...

When did Iraq attack the U.S.?! Did I miss something out?

It wouldn't have been wrong to liberate Iraq. Fact is - it wasn't liberated, it was plunged into chaos and the torturing of the innocent goes on in the very same prisons that saddam used to torture and kill off the innocents that stood in his way.

You know that Mohammed is (like Jesus) a holy religious figure and that you're committing an act of open blasphemy by calling him a pedophile? It is exactly that kind of cultural ignorance that bestows so many hostilities upon the U.S.

I wasn't answering your question. Honestly, I didn't know you asked it. I was just pointing out that I am from the U.S. and I am neither Republican or Democrat just so you don't start to think I'm some uber-Liberal from outside the U.S. who cannot possibly understand what is going on within the hearts and minds of U.S. people.

As for being relatively reasonable, it's only because I've calmed down. I was pretty enflamed about this topic last year. I've decided it's not worth debating anymore as my voice ain't gonna stop things.

Fair enough, Bossk.

Hmm.. I suppose America became the World Police(tm) when we realized the "United" Nations was absoluely worthless and both uncapable and unwilling to do the job. I believe Saddam violated 19 resolutions and the UN did NOTHING. They have a horrible track-record and I suppose someone has to do the job the neglect.

Well, RRS, the answer to your second question is pretty easy: Bush wasn't president then!
And I think we failed miseralby on the matter of stopping the USSR from spreading Communism. Remember, for most of the cold war, the Congress was anti-war-liberal and we had appeasment-focused presidents like Jimmy Carter. And we were scared all to crap of starting a Nuclear War with them. The fact that Reagan did something is part of why I think he is the greatest president of the 20th Century. Thanks to him, I didnt' grow up in a world fearing Nuclear War.

And by calling Mohammed a pedophile, I wasn't intending to demean Muslims. I don't hate Muslims individually or collectively. But I hate Islam. I hate what it does to people. I hate how it treats females. I hate how they blow up their kids to kill others for some perverted sense of holy justice.

By "pedophile" I was pointing out something that isn't often pointed out. Mohammed's youngest wife (her name escapes me) was engaged to her when he was forty. She was six. They "consumated" the marriage when she was nine. I'm not making this up, but I'll let you be the judge of what I said.

My mind is as wide as it needs to be, Motti. Perhaps you should try and narrow yours down some!

Elaborate, Sifo.

Who is torturing innocents in those prisons now? Somehow I think that is simply inflamatory rhetoric, not serious debate.

And I'm not ignorant about Islam. I've read a book by two former Muslims (brothers) and my pastor did a 12 sermon series on Islam. That is how I know that Mohammed even was a pedophile. And honestly I don't give a crap about Blaspheming Islam.

Finaly, By comparing Mohammed to Jesus, did you not just blaspheme Him? Food for thought.

Actually I don't hate Muslims. In fact, I belive it is a sin to hate anybody.

But that doesnt mean I can't hate what they do. I hate the fact that my parents smoke, but I don't hate my parents.

I hate Islam.
The religion.

And I allready established, Motti, that I am NOT pro-war. As if war was a good thing.
But if the war is justified (like I belive the WoT and Iraq wars are) then we should do what is right.

Be careful when it comes to hating religions. You come across sounding like a zealot. I find most Muslims to be peace-loving, decent human beings, and I appreciate where they are coming from, since my own religion has been branded as both sexist and racist, not to mention homophobic. Don't ask what it is, because that's personal information.
