I doubt George would put in the contract to not allow Disney to release the OOT. He couldn’t even keep them away himself.

I think he just didn’t wanna spend the money on a restoration for versions of films he didn’t like. Thus why we got LD transfers on those DVDs.

It’s a moot point now since the master would already be outdated, but they could have done an hd transfer in 2006 comparable to the then “official” version from a couple years earlier. It probably wouldn’t have looked as good detail-wise since it wouldn’t have been from the o-neg, but it would at least have been a modern transfer, unlike the GOUT.
he presumably signed something with Disney saying that Disney won’t un-do the Special Editions.
How could anyone know this?
But can Disney fix things that are objectively wrong like ANH’s crazy color issues or TPM and AotC’s DNR?
How could anyone know this?
How does your post advance the conversation in any way?
Answer my questions and I’ll answer yours.
But I don’t value your opinion.
How does your post advance the conversation in any way?
But that second one is clearly just me trying to win a fight with you.
I wasn’t asking for your opinion.
It’s a discussion forum. If you don’t want opinions don’t ask questions.
But the reason I replied to you in the first place was because you were being obnoxious just for the sake of it.
I don’t want your opinion, I just want you to know that I think your first post was worthless.
Break it up, or get a room.
Where were you in '77?
You’re quite sure of yourself in your reading of my motives, just like you’re sure of yourself in your reading of the OOT situation. And you’re quite definitely wrong about the former while very possibly wrong about the latter.
Just because you don’t understand my point doesn’t mean I don’t have one.
Break it up, or get a room.
Several other people have expressed the same idea I have but for some reason I’m the only one he has a problem with.

But you are the one being obnoxious. And you either know this and are playing dumb, or you’re actually dumb.
Yeah, makes me wonder…

How was he obnoxious in asking a legitimate question? If you know what sort of pact Disney entered into with Lucas with regards to the OOT, enlighten us, because we’re not privy to it.

This whole thing can be explained by one post.
This bickering is pointless!
This bickering is pointless!
Which reminds me, if they ever shot Vader getting a hot cup of joe during that scene, (as depcited in the novel and comic) it would have been shown at celebration this year. 😉

Wait, what?!
I’ll never think of that scene in Spaceballs the same way again…

Tone is a real thing, even just through text.
Other people did ask similar things, and I took no issue because their tone was not insincere.
You can read tone and insincerity in the five words “how can anyone know this?”
Just admit it’s simply because you don’t like me, as I already demonstrated, and we can all move on.

But you said it twice in a row, and after others had commented without questioning my intent.
I think it is obvious that my post is simply an invitation for speculation, or if anyone had info I didn’t.

Yes, once for each separate statement.

Yes, once for each separate statement.
And you must know that it sounded like you weren’t genuinely interested.
Less butthurt, more civility.

Its funny we are all hoping for a corporation being soulless and greedy.
It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher
Let the corporate greed flow! 😉

Disney simply isn’t Lucas, who (like it or not) was still an “artist”. Disney is pure corporation and what they care about is making the profit. Releasing OOT is simply unnoteworthy compared to the profit they get from making new stuff.
To paraphrase : Disney only cares and money. Therefore, they won’t sell a product that costs practically nothing to produce and that will sell like hot cakes at $100 a pop.
When you operate in billions, several millions is unnoteworthy profit. All it would do is basically steal lots of publicity and attention from the things that make them billions now.
