Bit of British politics for a change:

UKIP leader Henry Bolton’s model girlfriend was caught texting racist things and by racist I don’t mean, slightly ill-judged, I mean full-on Nazi Doctrine stuff. She’s giving her charming reaction to Prince Harry’s new fiancee being a mixed-race American:

“I wouldn’t with a Negro”
“Her seed will taint our Royal Family”
“This is Britain, not Africa”

After announcing he would make a statement this afternoon, which everybody naturally expected to be his resignation, Bolton fronted it out and said he’d “Drain the swamp” in his party. Wow. His self-delusion is almost impressive. Whatever illness Trump has, Bolton must have caught it.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-42770361

Ouch, that sounds like stuff people would say in the 1800’s. In my opinion, he either needs to resign or drop this racist girlfriend.

Particularly how certain views take on a popularity that shuts out dissent.

As for ignoring important issues, this caught my eye.

If the Republicans want me to judge them fairly, they need to stop supporting Trump.

Agreed. At some point, praising the 1930’s German pension system, even if based entirely in objective fact and genuine policy analysis, is a distraction. If the policy argument truly has merit (and I think the FISA one does), you can still make it after the Nazis have been defeated.

I’m one of the few people on here that hasn’t shied away from slamming both parties and all of our last three presidents (including Obama) over their fraudulent implementation of espionage and spying on American citizens under the “keeping us safe” excuse.

It’s not about fair judgment; it’s about not lowering the intelligence of the actual arguments.

Ex:
Trump is racist. His efforts to build a wall along the Mexican-American border indicate so. His striking down DACA indicates so. His term for countries like Haiti indicate so. His refusal to deflect support from white supremacy groups indicates so. Plus his hair is goofy. His voice is annoying. He and his wife are fighting and don’t even share a room. His VP calls his wife “Mother”. Trump has small hands. Here’s a funny video making fun of him.

Let me point out that there are some valid arguments in there. Then there are some stupid arguments in there. Now don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy a good spoof on Trump (love the “Once in a Lifetime” video!), but I cannot stand when an argument becomes an echo chamber where everyone has to fall in line and make fun of everything about the president and there no longer is any substance to any disagreement. I am glad to see mrebo arguing in favor of Trump in spite of my tremendous hatred for the man, simply because I don’t like how this thread has gotten so one-sided. If no one challenges your views, you tend to find yourself more ignorant on a topic at the end of the day. If you rely on stupid daily confirmations that Trump is an idiot because he wears cheap deodorant or picks his nose, then you are actually weakening your own stance and revealing more inherent bias rather than drawing legitimate conclusions based on careful thinking.

ender’s point that I agree with goes far beyond treating Republicans fairly. It’s about debating global warming, net neutrality, religious practices, abortion, feminism, etc. I care about that more than a hang up with a particular politician.

America elected Trump. I have problems with him as you all seem to. But the idea that fairness is dead unless we eject the president from office is absurd.

Sorry but it is the way I feel. I can be fair and debate with you and Ender. But I refuse to be fair and refuse to debate with those that still support Trump. This has nothing to do with whether or not Trump has small hands, whether or not he and his wife share a room, whether or not his Vice President calls his wife “mother”, wears cheap deodorant, or picks his nose. This has to do with Trump being a complete and total disgrace to this nation and its history. Everyone that supports him and everyone that voted for him should be ashamed of themselves. You want to support conservative viewpoints? Fine. You want to support Trump, not fine.

Right. I’m just contesting Warb’s idea that treatment of Pence or whoever hinges on Trump. Clearly you’re judging Pence for his positions and that’s fine.

Well he also calls his wife “mother” and thinks it’s impossible to have a female friend, which is pretty fucked up.

My last post on the matter: Hate Trump! That’s fine! I don’t like him either! But hate him because he’s a disgrace, not because he picks his nose. Hate him because of his misogyny, not because he only brushes his teeth once a day. Hate him for his policies, not his quirks. Hate him because of his decisions, not his unique preferences. Hate him for his words, not his idiosyncrasies. That is my point!
