I think most of us just aren’t used to warbler making jokes.

There’s that too. This time it just seemed super obvious. Then again there were other times I thought it was super obvious he was making a joke and it turned out he wasn’t making a joke so…

I’m guessing a woman could explain it better than I can.

However, if I were to take a stab at it…When you’re a woman, there’s a very good chance you’ve been sexually assaulted or sexually harassed by a man. For a man to call you a slang term for your genitalia as an insult? Seems far worse than “bitch” to me.

I was tempted to do a google search for some articles that would explain it better than that but I don’t want it on my search history. 😉

Maybe. I have a different view on a similar situation. I don’t care at all about the “f” word (ain’t talkin’ 'bout fuck), I’ve been called it enough times in my relatively short life that I will use it when I want.

The Person in Question

It’s the way it’s often used, typically to disrespect strong women for behaviors that would earn their male counterparts praise. You’re not an “asshole,” which of course is a general and non-gendered insult, you’re a “cunt,” which implies there’s something specifically negative about being a woman exhibiting that behavior. When a man is called a cunt, it’s using it in a slightly different way, implying that they’re so bad they’re qualifying for female insults, which opens up a whole other box of connoting women and negativity. Basically it’s the same issue with every gendered insult, just the c-word is the worst of them, for whatever reason it came to be that way. Anyway, that’s how I see it, I’ve never really read any actually informed opinions on it, I’d probably seek those out and listen to them over my random ramblings.

Of course the truth is that the c-word doesn’t hold the same weight in other parts of the world. With the internet the way it is, and with it being so easy to hear people from these other parts saying the word without issue, it can be easy to forget that the word isn’t acceptable everywhere. I honestly don’t see why everyone felt the need to hop on Tyr’s case for one slip up (especially when we have people who throw around the r-word without anyone saying anything).

To be clear, I don’t mean don’t hop on Tyr’s case in general, obviously there are plenty of reasons to do that.

Not sure if you have a point beyond the actual fact that he’s a dick, but ok.

Is ‘dick’ as bad an insult?

Of course not.

If you truly don’t understand why, read Dom’s post again.

Did I ever say that I didn’t understand why?

Why else would you ask about it when the point was already made? I’m sure you did understand it but I’m legitimately curious as to why you do this kind of thing from time to time.

I just wanted to induce a discussion.

Are you just asking for someone from the opposing viewpoint to chime in then? Because

the existence of a male counterpart to the name does not change the inherent misogynistic component of the other name. Just because we have gendered insults for both genders doesn’t mean that one can’t be more problematic than the other.

I will now bow out from this discussion about my post.

What is the r-word?

If we could say the r-word, it wouldn’t be the r-word.
