I mean AFAIK Duracell is eastern Canada which means it should have been mid-afternoon, right? Why would he stay up all night for a mid-afternoon event?

Western Canada, actually. The eclipse began here around 9:10 and ended around 11:45. I usually wake shortly before or after 12.

Ok, I had you on the wrong side of a very large country, so my bad…but you don’t get up until noon? Seriously?

I briefly worked nights and that was around when I’d wake up during that time.

I like going to sleep late but hate waking up late.

If I didn’t have a second-shift schedule that made me get up at 10-10:30 each day (I work 12-10pm), my natural sleep cycle would fall somewhere from 3am-12pm or 4am-1pm. The only reason I don’t work third shift is the fact that it would completely kill what little social life I have. (Luckily the friends I have are all fellow night owls.)

Waking up earlier than 10am is my personal hell.

The rest of my family doesn’t go to bed until around midnight. The time they’re asleep – without all their arguing and asinine chittering and general noisemaking – is the only time of day where I feel I have some peace of mind. I take advantage of the tranquility by staying up 'til 3:00 or thereabouts.

Was in the 100% range by chance because the family was on a roadtrip and we parked at a great spot to see it.

I must say that it was one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time. Really blew my mind being able to see it happen in the flesh.

More dirty talk! So it wasn’t just your eyes that were naked, eh? For shame!

I can sympathize. I did this a lot when I was in 8-12 grade just to get some peace.

I’ve heard some people call the eclipse kinda lame. I think that that’s kinda lame.

In other thoughts, when the eclipse happened, it felt like it was getting dark at the wrong time of day. It was as dark as mid-evening, but the sun wasn’t setting, so you din’t get those atmospheric effects. It’s a really weird thing, and hard to describe.

I felt kind of tired and sleepy after the whole ordeal, with a light headache. I’ve heard other people express similar feelings.

And now for a really crappy photograph:

I tried to take this through the special eclipse glasses, because I thought that the sun’s rays might damage the glass of the camera lens. By the time I heard that it is, in fact, safe to take pictures of the sun and the eclipse with your camera, the eclipse had already almost completely faded.

Here’s a picture that approximates the feeling I described earlier. This is about four minutes after peak eclipse here. The camera didn’t capture the full feeling however, though I edited the photo to approximate it more closely:

It did feel a lot darker than the picture shows.

Finally, two photos of a sunset:

I am lucky enough to be in a city that was right in the center of totality. It was an absolutely amazing sight!

If anyone is interested, this video answers a lot of “what’s the big deal” type questions, even if by now, it’s kinda old news.

For a minute I thought you meant you looked at a dog through eclipse glasses.
