I currently have no PS3 and a cash refund
Not sure what your all-in costs were, but maybe it’s time to reconsider which is better: a used PS3 that has problems playing a bunch of cheap, older games or a new PS4 that reliably plays a few newer, but more expensive, games.
A new PS4 paired with Horizon: Zero Dawn is £254.
I think it’s more to do with the way the retailer CEX works.
They recieve a lot of hardware, often from people hitting hard times, with difficult lives (drugs, crime etc) an they haven’t the staff hours to test them.
I only really discovered this through talking to the staff (who are almost universally amazing btw) and hanging around in the background and seeing who is bringing things in.
A couple brought in an iPhone without a charger and legged it out of the shop when staff offered to check if it was locked or not. I dare say they handle some stolen goods too.
As for my reason for buying the console. I am interested in playing the previous genenration of games, not all the games I want to play are available on the current generation machines and I find their online service a bit suspect.
I have a PS account but my bank details are not on it, the mailing address is not where I live and my email address is not the one I use for my financial, work or personal email conversations.
I download the upgrades and patches and then I disconnect myself from the internet.
I never connected any of my previous games consoles to the official internet service (XBOXlive had abandoned the original Xbox by the time I had one, my PS2 has never had an ethernet cable in the back).
I am currently flush enough to buy modern consoles and games but I have so many games already that even buying a PS3 and a Wii U (which is something I want to do at some point in the year) is a bit of an unnecessary luxury.
I’ve ordered another PS3 from Ebay.
If that’s a dud I will get a refund from that service eventually.
PS4 will not be on my shopping list until the PS6 is on the horizon.
