I just someone point out on the Legacy forum that the “Star Wars Show” confirmed that this panel is entirely about A New Hope specifically and that there will be surprises. Here’s the link if you haven’t seen it:

So they italicize A New Hope for “A New Hope turns 40!”, but then they more importantly italicize Star Wars in “Star Wars 40th Anniversary Panel”. I see what they are doing there…me like.

I like the way you think.

They also italicized SW in “untitled Han Solo Star Wars story”

Yeah that’s the panel I mentioned a while ago, the last actual news about this which isn’t just an anonymous rumour. I mean it’s still unlikely and he could have got the wrong impression. And it’s been 2 years so…

To be fair, he didn’t say when…

They’ll announce the long awaited Michael Bay directed ANH remake starring Melissa McCarthy, Dwayne Johnson and Adam Sandler. Mark my words.

They could have George Lucas come out and burn his Technicolor print onstage. Then announce he would use the Rogue One tech to make Greedo really shoot first and have a double for Han so he can dodge.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I mean, I’m not saying I agree with the way the OOT has been treated, even though it isn’t my preferred version

There aren’t different “versions” of the movies. There are the original theatrical releases, and then there are the alterations. The ones that were released in movie theaters were the movies that won lots of awards. They aired on television and were sold in various home video formats for two decades. Then, they were altered, and the person who altered them attempted to erase the originals from existence.

The 1997 versions were also released in theaters.

They were still alterations to THE films.

In a world where we have an Army of Darkness blu-ray with three different cuts of the movie (scanned from different sources!), I would very much like to see such treatment given to each of the OT movies.

That’s nothing. The Blade Runner set has like 6 versions of the movie.

In a world where we have The Big Gundown (the best spaghetti western you’ve never seen) pristine on Blu-ray with both cuts from different sources and both the original English and Italian mono tracks from an obscure label, there’s no excuse. I swear, the more popular the movie, the more likely it’ll be mistreated.

Is there any hope that Disney is sitting on a surprise announcement of the original versions of the OT coming to Blu-Ray and UltraHD for the 40th anniversary next May?

Only a fool’s hope.

After watching 20 minutes of Harmy’s Despecialised ANH, i don’t even care anymore. If they would release them officially, i would wait for reviews. I watched the official SE Blurays just last thursday and Han, Luke, and Leia’s orange faces after escaping the trash compactor still haunt my dreams, haha.

Well, if they released them officially, and you kept watching Harmy without purchasing the official release, you’d be a pirate.

People watching Harmy’s versions already are. Whether it’s officially released or not, Lucasfilm still owns the material.

Random question - is the celebration panel going to be streamed?

Consider me part of the Rebel Alliance then. When you are fighting for a good cause against tyranny and oppression, you will never be on the wrong side of history.

In a world where Samurai Cop is on Blu-Ray but not the original versions of Star Wars, there’s definitely no excuse!
