The difference being that you aren’t a pothead I assume? Unless you’ve gotten a job without announcing it.

I can’t even fathom this. I’ve been to the movies more times than I can count (and I have tried). Nowadays I go even more often, last year I think I went on average about 3 or 4 times a month (I’m crazy I know - though that really is an average, I went only once in August but 14 times in November, including stretch where I saw seven movies on seven consecutive days - I’m crazy, I know). If you go to the right places and see the right films, there’s honestly nothing quite as magical as seeing a film on the big screen. As someone who’s seen a fuckton at home and in theaters, there’s really no comparison.

Not saying you’d feel the same way, but you’ve got to try it.

Would you believe that I never went to the movies alone until once a couple months ago? Not that I specifically avoided it, I just never felt compelled to go all by myself, or ever had much reason. I can say, full heartedly, that I agree. I definitely plan on going alone again, there is a whole other dimension that goes with it.

Yeah, I was the same way. Always went with friends or family or whatever until I was in a sorry state in Canada having just been dumped and being so poor that a friend bought me a ticket from the States (the Internet!) to see Age of Ultron because he felt bad that I wasn’t able to see it.

And it was such a nice experience! Maybe it was because of what was going on in my life at the time, but there was just something about it. Usually when I go with other people, I always spend a lot of the time wondering about the other person’s reactions or thoughts or whatever, so I never really get to immerse myself. But going alone you can just lean back and pay full attention to the movie and just enjoy it. Definitely recommend it.

I don’t know if I think so much about others reactions so much during, but to me it is very much more a shared experience when you go with others. Going by yourself, in contrast, feels a lot more personal and intimate.

The reason I went alone is because I was super exciting, having found a second run theater, and as far as I could tell the best thing they were playing was Pete’s Dragon. None of my friends in town seemed to have any interest, but I had heard it was good so I went. And a very good film to see alone too, because it really is quite personal (and quite good!).

You do realize nobody under the age of 30 is going to get that joke?

I know Pee Wee Herman was around several years before the tv show, but when the heck was this taken? Pretty sure smoking wasn’t allowed in movie theaters by the end of the 70’s.

JFTR, I have nothing against potheads in general, just potheads like my parents who spent money on it constantly when they have more important monetary concerns to deal with.

I’ve only gone to a theater by myself once. Realistically though there’s no point trying to find a group since you shouldn’t be talking during the movie anyway.

That explains why you never went to a movie before the age of 13.

That’s a good point, I’ve gone to movies with friends, and they sometimes won’t stop talking for a certain bit of time.
Luckily that hasn’t happened too many times. The only reason I go alone is because the movie movie is 3D, and no one really wants to go see it. Also, I usually go to screenings with reserved seats, so those are normally with AVX, IMAX, 3D.

It’s the same thing with going to concerts, it’s sometimes really hard to find friends to go with, or their musical preference is complete different to mine.

Reserved seat theaters are great. They generally cost more, but I think it’s totally worth it, being comfortable is a huge part of enjoying the movie.

I actually think that the high prices make it pointless to see movies unless you either think that you know they’ll be great, or if you’ve been anticipating it for a while. Twenty years ago it was affordable to just go to the movies and see what sounded fun.

Yeah I only go when it’s something I’m actually interested in and know I’ll like.

I get the reserved seats for movies I’ve been anticipating for a long while. Also, you don’t need to waste half the day in a line, to ensure you get a good seat and not stuck in the first row, with regular Tickets. I’ve seen the first X-Men movie in the first row, and it was not a fun experience. I’ve experienced my fare share of waiting in line for movies when I was a kid. No need to relive that for movies anymore.
I get plenty of that when it comes to waiting in line for a Concert, to ensure you get as close to the stage as possible.

The nearest theatre is beyond walking distance and I can’t drive, so. . . .

It’s more like the other way around. Without my disability money, they’d be further into debt than they already are. Not to mention that I have to chop the wood, start the fires, do the laundry, and all the various other menial chores they can’t do anymore due to the poor health they brought upon themselves.

But this discussion is getting off-topic, so I won’t continue it here.
