He’s constantly looking into newer & more complete solutions, and has updated his approach/equipment several times. For example,

on external comb filters:

With that being said, the most important factor in getting a good LD picture is the player you’re using. … The s-video output on all LD players therefore uses a builtin (old and no longer top performing) comb filter IC. 99.9% of the time you’ll get better results with composite and an external comb filter …

on capture cards:

Report: The 550’s 3DCF is entirely configurable unlike the 750. I’m getting accustomed to configuring it now.

on low-pass filtering (and check out that comparison!):

Here’s a sample of the result of low pass filtering THX 1138’s chroma to 843.75KHz (that’s 1.6875MHz together which is basically DV’s 4:1:1). This isn’t what LD is capable of (>1.3MHz for I and Q), but it’s double S-VHS and the rainbows disappear, so it’s good enough for me!

Note: No 3D comb filter was used here. This is 100% spatial.

It’s hard to keep up! 😃 Maybe if AntcuFaalb could chime-in with some his best-so-far recommendations?
