Sean writes in with this cool report to confirm work on a SW TV Show is most definitely happening: I asked him about Star Wars' future and he got really excited and told me in thinly veiled comments that it is going to TV (live-action) . He couldn't go into details because he was under a legal contract. So I asked this gentlemen if the show was pre-EP4, he said maybe with a smile, then I asked about Vader, and he had the same response, same with Chewbacca, same with Tarkin. Anyways he said Lucasfilm was really excited about this, and he did mention that there were to be no Episodes 7-9.
We've got more coming this week, but let's just say a TV Show is a definite thing, according to documents being distributed to licensees and marketing people now.

I have one word reguarding a SW tv show w/ live action: RETARDED.
I don't really like the concept of a tv show for SW neways, it seems to me that it would be a waste of my time trying to tune in for a tv show weekly or monthly or whenever...
Live action? Nah, don't think so. The Holyday Special comes to mind... An animated series, yes. That could happen easily. I think there might be 1 or 2 animated series on TV, some more books, the Ultimate Edition of both trilogies, and that's it. No more SW.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering
I wouldn't mind if there were one or two animated SPECIALS, not series . Also, I think the books may continue a quite a bit longer, till Luke has to die; that is just my opinion.
There are positives and negatives her IMO. The positive is that a live action series could be great, if it was done right! The negative is that it won't be...
I can't think of one myself...but then again, I watch three shows on television & that is it....lol. I actually never knew that SG was a movie first...lol.
There really is no positive to the situation involving live action.
It can be done well. Do you remember M.A.S.H? The series was based on the movie and it was just as good, in my opinion. The Odd Couple was another popular series based on the movie. If there is a Star Wars series being made, i'll give it a fair chance.
Generally hated M*A*S*H*, but enjoyed the Odd Couple. If GL wants to make a SW series, he should go the Starship Troopers route; that way, it'll suck less, and he won't have to deal w/actors anymore.
I can’t understand why everyone is disregarding this idea at so early a stage of its development. Nothing has been confirmed. No one is attached to it, writers, actors, directors. Nothing is known about it at all. Yet people are all ready saying ‘I don’t like the sound of this’ What is wrong with you all? This type of reaction never happens when a new novel is announced, or graphic book. However, if it turns out to be a new ‘animated show’, that would seem to have the thumbs up of approval? Can anybody please offer a good reason to disregard the notion of this project, without using phrases like ‘dude’ & ‘sucks’? I await with baited breath, for your no doubt amusing replies.
to be honest, if they made a TV series set 4000 years before ANH, in the era of the Old Republic, the days when Jedi were strong and guardians of peace and justice, and the Sith were running loose; then i would love to see it...
I agree with HotRod that sci fi doesn't really have a track record for success on TV unless it's on some backwater station like UPN or the WB here in the States. But Lucas wouldn't go for that. If he's putting his time and money on this, he's gonna want CBS, NBC, ABC, or FOX as his broadcast partner and none of these stations have much luck with sci fi. Even if it does have the name Star Wars attached to it.

Without igniting a Trek V’s Wars debate, Star Trek The Next Generation was a great Science Fiction series in a day when there was no SF on television. Its easy to forget in ‘genre’ saturated times how little Sci Fi was actually on TV during the mid 80’s to early 90’s. I may be wrong but it may have been the only Sci Fi show on TV for a couple of years of the 80’s. Although STNG seem dated and too politically correct now, at the time it was a provoking science fiction show when there was none. Star Wars on the other hand has never attempted to be classed as Sci Fi, but would no doubt be labelled as that anyway.
