There’s only one show I bother to watch on Netflix and it’s three simple words Trailer Park Boys 😀

By the way Han shot first.

People who subscribe to a streaming service only to watch one show are weird.

One of the few perks of getting old is being able to laugh at people who embrace streaming over physical media. 😉

I have Netflix for streaming and for Blu Ray by mail, but I still buy many titles on Blu Ray for my own personal collection. Something about owning you’re own copy of physical media.

^This.

Oh, and while we’re all talking about streaming services, Netflix Canada’s selection of horror movies sucks.

Physical media (specifically Blu-Ray) because…

-you can actually physically have a collection with nice shiny discs in nice shiny cases with nice shiny cover art.
-it is permanently yours.
-it’s bonus features/audio commentaries are assembled on beautiful menus
-Full HD quality with amazing surround sound tracks

But I do always make sure I have a digital file version for VLC IOS playback on my phone and IPad (Torrent HD compressed 4ish GB movies AFTER I have purchased the blu Ray.

And to some of us, like myself, there’s also…
-Streaming services having an overall pretty pathetic selection in Norway (I’m sure the same holds true for quite a few other non-US countries as well),
-Internet streaming being a total crapshoot due to an extremely unstable connection.

I mean I have Netflix… I use it to watch The Flash these days, and they have some other stuff here and there that might interest me… but streaming still has a long way to go before I’ll consider it a good alternative to BD.

I typically like streaming because I don’t like physical things, except for things I really care about.

Are you a brain in a jar?

While the concept is cool, in practice I find it disgusting.

Often I’ll buy a Blu Ray and then soon after I get it, it pops up on Netflix. When I got the BTTF set, all three films showed up that same week. The discs include the BTTF: The Ride video as a bonus feature though, so it was worth it.

For me, they were on Netflix but I never got around to watching part 3 before they took it off again so I had to go out and buy the blu ray set 😦

Funny you should mention Oculus. I just watched it a couple days ago.

I’ve never seen The Babadook up there, though.

The Babadook is really good. Maybe not TFA good, but it’s really good.

Actually, I’ve seen The Babadook, too. Watched it back in March, I think, and it’s still sitting in my DVR. I’d say it’s far better than TFA. 😛

I quite liked Oculus. Here’s my full opinion on the movie:

Early in the film, you get the impression that this movie is going to be a horror version of Rashomon, with the sister and brother giving equal but mutually exclusive descriptions of the trauma they experienced as children – she believing it was all caused by an evil enchanted mirror, he believing it was the result of more mundane phenomena. The movie does run with that engrossing idea – for about the first twenty minutes; then it decides to dispense with any possibility that there could be a rational explanation behind their childhood trauma and completely goes for supernatural shenanigans.

The movie from there on out is still very good – mixing the real with the unreal and the past with the present rather flowingly – though it does get to be a bit of a mess towards the end. Still, I think the film would’ve been better than good – a true masterpiece – if it had just stuck to ambiguity.

Just finished watching TFA again. I think this was the sixth time. The first five times I liked it more and more each time. This time, I found myself fulling enjoying every second and excitedly anticipating every upcoming moment. I really, really love this film 😃

I’ve struggled with my “personal ranking” since this came out, but I’ve been reluctant to place it above ROTJ because o nostalgia, I guess. But after reading the review I just wrote above, and considering that there are several sequences in Jedi during which I literally roll my eyes, I think I have to place TFA immediately behind Star Wars and Empire. Jedi is now #4, despite the fact that some of my favorite sequences in the saga, those in the throne room, are in it.
