“The Negotiator” (1998)
Samuel L Jackson shouts his way through a movie as only he can. Kevin Spacey is the hostage negotiator negotiating with a negotiator and he’s brilliant. Every actor in it is brilliant. It’s exciting, tense, witty, superbly shot, edited and scored.
I’ve seen it before and I was still on the edge of my seat. As far as I can tell the movie’s only misstep was not letting the audience in on the fact that Sam’s character didn’t kill Thin Hank Shraeder sooner. Other than that, flawless.
Also, if you go back and rewatch the beginning credits once you know who the bad guys are you can see that the photos are composed in a way that betrays their guilt through subtle body language and their physical placement with other characters.
Genius. A hugely impressive 4.75 oversized-air-vents out of 5.
