dark_jedi, well, you’re very welcome! I would have to record my VHS to DVD’s, as I don’t have any computer video capture capability, if that quality will do. Please forgive me, but I honestly admit that I’m not that computer savvy and am not afraid to ask for help, so… How do I/we PM each other on here? I’d be happy to, but you must make it easy for me follow! I’m very happy to help out. SilverWook was kind enough to show me how to post pictures on here and I just did it again, so the memory isn’t completely gone…

Happy Father’s Day to one and all!

Yea maybe SilverWook can help with that, I do not know how to cap from VHS to DVD, I thought you already had them digital, but I know he knows because he just sent us some very cool stuff to use for The Black Hole.

Oh and for PM, just click on my name next to the lovely pic of Ahsoka and then click start a private topic.

friedcamera, here are the note cards that accompany my X-Files FTF VHS tapes, as well as a scan of a tape that has some material on it from when DD was coming back onto the show, in between the episodes that I taped at the time of their airing. Let me know if you’re interested in this material!

JayArgonaut, sure. The 2001 POTA tapes would contain things similar to what I previously posted about my X-Files Fight the Future VHS tapes and their contents. Mainly, interviews, commercials, entertainment show segments, Fox and local affiliate coverage, box office reports, cable new outlets reports, other specials and just about anything that aired at the time of the release. I just found the tapes and will attempt to scan the note cards with all the details on them for you.

Wow, “ST”, thanks for your extremely prompt response. I’m really impressed by the sheer extent and meticulousness of your archiving. You probably have material that even the studios have lost or forgotten about. I’ve long felt that a lot of home video releases wouldn’t be so below par in terms of extras if the studios employed people who really know how to research and took archiving seriously. This is a perfect example.

JayArgonaut, thank you very kindly. Some people call it meticulousness, some call it mental illness… Tomato, Tormato! I really tried to capture everything that I could when a favorite subject came up. I’ve worn out dozens of VCR’s, DVD recorders and assorted mechanicals over the years. Even now my wife doesn’t know how to turn the TV on to watch a program because of all the machines connected to it and the dozen or so remotes sitting here. The studios are clueless and too cheap to have the fans’ love and passion for the products they put out, sadly. Let me know if you or anyone would be interested in this material and anything else they might be passionate about. I have far more printed matter on things than I do videos! Thanks again.

Hi SilverWook, JayArgonaut, pittrek, friedcamera, dark_jedi and all others.

I just came back from over two hours of videotape searching. I located a few unexpected things and thought I’d post the basic results of my search here.

I have on VHS, “UFO’s: Above and Beyond” with James Doohan from TLC, date unknown at present.

Also on VHS, several episodes of “Ancient Mysteries With Leonard Nimoy”, from the A&E Channel.

“The Others” TV series on NBC, from 2000, with John Billingsley. I believe all 13 episodes are present.

“Blackes Magic” TV series from 1986, starring Hal Linden and Harry Morgan. All episodes(?)

“John Doe” TV series from 2002, starring Dominic Purcell. All 21 episodes(?)

“Payne” TV series from 1999, a US version of “Fawlty Towers”, starring John Laroquette and Julie Benz, at least 5 episodes.

“Diagnosis Murder” episode, “Alienated”, from 10/29/1998. Guest starring: Walter Koenig, George Takei, Majel Barrett, Grace Lee Whitney, Wil Wheaton and Bill Mumy.

“The Secrets of the Back To The Future Trilogy” home video from MCA that was included as a FREE promo tape bundled with a VHS release. 21 minutes, hosted by Kirk Cameron.

“Star Trek: A Captain’s Log” from CBS airing in 1994, 47 minutes. Beta recording.

“The Science of Star Trek”, PBS special, 56 minutes. Beta.

“Making of DS9: Trial and Tribbleations” from the Sci-Fi Channel, 23 minutes. Beta.

There are numerous other ST related segments on this Beta tape, I’ll scan it for you.

For the Star Wars fans:

“From Star Wars to Star Wars”, a FOX special from 1999, 46 minutes.

“NOVA: Special Effects: Titanic & Beyond” program from 1998. MAY contain SW material.

“Siskel & Ebert”: “Star Wars” (My notation on tape), from 1999, 21 minutes.

“The Mythology of Star Wars”, a Bill Moyers PBS special from 1999, 55:30 running time.

“Unnatural History” TV series from 1998 on TLC. Season 1, Episode 4, “Prophecies and Ghostly Voices” from May 26, 1998, 47 minutes. Mark Hamill narrated. I have NO idea what this is.

I also have extensive coverage of 9/11, as it happened, from several networks from that day.

Also, most, if not all of the televised coverage of President Clinton’s Senate Impeachment Trial from 1998 to 1999. Don’t ask…

Hundreds of hours on JFK, covering his presidency, life and assassination.

Many hours of programs on the following topics:
RFK
MLK, Jr.
Watergate/Richard Nixon
Pearl Harbor
The Titanic
Sam Shepherd case
Various U.S. and World historical events throughout history.

So, anyone and everyone, please mark what you’re interested in and I’ll do my best to keep my wife from throwing the aforementioned videos at me… 😉

Well I know it will sound weird but the JFK assassination stuff and the live 911 coverage sound fascinating. For example the 911 stuff - both sides show only clips which support their claims

Just documenting all the JFK stuff would take quite a while, there are dozens of tapes with material on the subject. One day I will do it.

As for 9/11, I turned the TV on minutes after the first plane hit and was quite obviously shocked, but of course no one at first realized it was a coordinated attack on the country. I can’t remember offhand when I started all my VCR’s, but recorded quite a bit of it “live” from the major networks, mostly cable. I barely slept for a week, and I had no personal connection. Some of the footage that was shown that day from various sources bringing it to the networks I have NEVER seen since. Harrowing.

Thanks for the attention.

I located these items from my “Convention TO SELL” box. Let me know if anyone needs anything from them.

The 1998 calendar has some nice images, all printed on glossy paper.
The last item is an unopened Target promo.

SilverWook, this is a dealer flyer of my current SuperBeta machine:

To be honest we would actually take anything SW related, we at some point have an idea to make a bunch of “extras” Blu-rays.

Alas, not in pink. I’m tempted to find some speakers to hook up to give the amp a whirl someday.

Yours is very cool also. For a consumer deck, I have had no problems since I bought it. I have at least one other working player for an emergency. There’s nothing like a Beta. Did you ever get into ED-Beta? It was just too expensive for me at the time.

Here are a few “Star Wars” resources I hope may be useful to you all:

This is a superb issue.

Very interesting and good.

Strange, but interesting magazine from the UK, 1977.

Wrap-around cover for the UK’s “Starburst” Vol 1, No. 1.

Advert from April 1980.

Some “Jedi” content. “Brainstorm” is another favourite of mine.

Original DVD insert.

I didn’t include the “Cinefex” issue with “The Phantom Menace” and one devoted to ILM and “Star Wars”. I also have other “Cinefex” and “Cinefantastique” issues covering many of my favourite topics I mentioned in a previous post. I hope that some of this may help you.

Most Starlog issues are available on archive.org these days, but some of the other magazines of the era may be useful to someone around here.

ED Beta alas was far too expensive for my blood. A Super VHS system editing system was more affordable for me back then. I still wanted one though! Somebody somewhere must have a stash of ED Beta recordings. 😉

I did not know that, thank you.

There was a Sony store on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago, the “Magnificent Mile” back in the 1990’s that carried ED-Beta players and tapes. I think the tapes were around $25 per back then. Waaay too rich for me, too. But I used to go in there and drool over the players…

I almost forgot about these. I bet you that probably haven’t seen them before:

A Christian publishing house had an entire series of these that covered all types of films for use in churches. I have a few of them, covering some of the “Star Trek” movies and other films.

I’ve seen George mention churches using Star Wars in an old interview before. Interesting to see such material.

Where did you get the Universal Studios document from?

I’m sure there are others out there.

I do not recall. I have some film studio and music label documents as well. I used to collect Press kits and other related memorabilia, but have sold a lot of it over the years.

It’s been quiet here for some time, so I’ll return to my original question - is there any chance you would digitize your Sci-fi channel SEs ? 😃
