I love how the more open movie productions become, the less people understand about how movie production actually works.

BFD and clickbait, Lucas did additional shooting on the prequels. It’s part and parcel of the process of filmmaking these days. And I don’t buy that there’s been any sort of test screening with folks off the street. That would generate some plot leakage if anybody outside the company saw it.

One of those modern LOLs to anyone who thinks Lucasfilm test screens Star Wars movies…

Wait a minute…so one of the comments by the execs was that it didnt feel like Star Wars; that it felt like…a war movie.

Everyone in the galaxy knew this was the plan except this one guy.

And he’s the only person in the universe who’s afraid people won’t go to see a Star Wars movie because it’s a war movie.

That’s weird and also dumb. The whole idea was for it to be a war movie, that’s why they brought all the war movie people in. That’s why everyone was excited for it.

tbh I got more of a Star Wars feel from the trailer than I did a Saving Private Ryan/Black Hawk Down feel, so I dunno what the issue is.

Maybe…maybe not. I hope the reshoots are happening because it was bad rather than on the basis that it’s too much like a war movie. Whatever the fuck that means considering that “WARS” is part of the name of the franchise.

I don’t believe the movie is in any serious trouble. The same rumor mills had a field day when Harrison Ford was injured on the set of TFA.

I don’t think the movie is in trouble but I’m now even more curiouser to see this flick.

I too highly doubt the production is in trouble. But I would be disappointed if the reason for the reshoots is to make it less of a “gritty” war movie and add more of the Star Wars “magic” of the episodic films. It would be interesting to experience a film of a different tone in the SW universe, and what better way to explore that than through a tangential plot line that’s not essential to the saga. It would be a shame if they passed on that opportunity.

Yeah. Like you said before, what movie doesn’t have reshoots? It’s a common thing, but it looks exciting in the headlines.

As long as they’re not doing them to stick a Jedi in, I’m fine. =P

That’s what gets me.

The spinoffs are an opportunity to explore different directorial styles. It lets different directors do what they do best in terms of tone. They’re a chance to make simply good movies set in the Star Wars galaxy.

Maybe and hopefully the idea is to leave the director’s signature style but not let it stray too far from the galaxy as opposed to stifling creative.

Frankly I like the notion of a film in the SW galaxy with a horror film tone or a western motif or a cop buddy flick or a drama.

I honestly want to see a Lovecraftian SW horror film.

The writer was on twitter saying the rumors were bs. So who knows?

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Of course it’s a pile of bantha poodoo. Rebuilding sets to reshoot 40%(!) of the movie would be pretty hard to conceal if it was happening.

Hopefully, they will set the record straight at Celebration.

Well, if Mr. Binks dies in the process of getting the DS plans to our heroes, that might just redeem the prequels. 😉

New EW article. Basics:

Reshoots were planned in advance, this is common practice with blockbusters.
4-5 weeks of reshoots- due to the logistics of the actors being available at the same time- some are working on other films.
Mostly character development and personal scenes that fit in with what was shot.
Rogue One is different than TFA, a war film, and that is intentional.
Outside of Lucasfilm only Bob Igar and Alan Horn have seen a cut.

I’m guessing that if anything violent would be cut, it would be because of a potential R.

Basically the only info regarding these reshoots of any import/interest is that Tony Gilroy is helping out, which is pretty awesome.

I was expecting the FUD about the reshoots was overhyped; I feel reaffirmed by the EW article.

I find it kind of interesting they referred to the new shots as “a lot of talking in cockpits.” I haven’t heard anything about a major character being a pilot myself, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Any further discussion on this pilot is probably more fit for the spoiler thread.
