"Normal" people trying to sound like they are SW experts — Page 3

Most normal people I know are Star Wars fans to some extent. Many of them grew up with the PT but still consider it shit (though have a soft spot). The OT is definitely better regarded, so shifting the marketing focus there just makes sense.

Yeah, you guys haven’t overheard any conversations like the ones I’ve had or anything like that? People just pulling stuff out of their ass? Confusion over the Special Editions doesn’t count, as that’s understandable and those people have my utmost sympathies.

Someone once told me that the force was real but no one knew how to use it.

No, I’ve heard exactly the kind of stuff you’re talking about behind me in the movie theater (usually triggered by some SW trivia that comes on before the show) but I don’t remember specifically what was said (maybe because it was BS!!).

Jar-Jar is the Emperor in the extra special edition of ROTJ (scenes 1, 3, and then 6 to the end).

Doesn’t sound normal to me!!

His “normal” is a different normal.

Since you’ve never met me, I’d like to know what “normal” you think you’ve pegged me with.

The type of normal that uses the word “pegged”.

I was at work a few weeks ago and this dude came in to get some free water and he seemed about my age so I offhandedly asked him if he saw the Rogue One trailer. Well one thing lead to another and we ended up talking about all sorts of other stuff from the older films. We get to talking about Endor and I mention how I wondered how the Battle of Endor would have gone down had they used that one AT-AT shown in the film in the battle. Well he insisted that they did use the AT-AT in ROTJ and it was in the scene where it points it’s lasers at Han to get him and the others to hold their arms up and surrender. I tried correcting him twice but he was super insistent that no, no it was an AT-AT that finally got Han and the others to surrender. I hate when people swear up and down they know something like this when it was obvious to me I had seen the films way more than he has.

Someone on the playground told me that Grand Moff Tarkin was Obi Wan’s father.

I had a hard time convincing my classmates in grammar school that Threepio and Artoo had human actors inside them.

Mind you, there was a lot of misinformation in the early days, some from the studio, who apparently thought breaking the illusion would somehow hurt the movie.

If we had robots that could do all that in 1977, Skynet would have taken over in the 80’s. 😉

Ohh, I mean: It hasn’t.

A friend actually said to me, “I saw the one where Luke became Darth Vader.”

The only times where normies acting as if they really know Star Wars pisses me off is when the collective minds of people who don’t know jackshit try to assert their views on youtube. It’s bad enough that most of these people are entitled and overly opinionated teenagers but with all of the half truths and plain lies told on there it’s almost insufferable.

Your problem is that you’re watching anyone with an opinion on YouTube.

Well the claims and the weak arguments are everywhere across the internet though it’s most prevalent on youtube and facebook. Popular misconceptions have never been so abundant.

It’s always weird to me when one of these threads rolls around and there are people who talk about Star Wars like it’s some kind of secret they have to hide, lest they be outted and face some kind of public humiliation.

Maybe it’s a generational thing.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

It must be because I’ve never been made fun of for being a Star Wars fan. If anything I’ve had some very good conversations with strangers because it’s so loved among the populace.

I think it became embarrassing once the prequels were done. From what I remember – although I admit that this may be entirely anecdotal – Star Wars was viewed as a bloated joke by the general populace. That changed during the buildup to TFA.

I certainly have been made fun of for being a star wars fan. Me and my friends growing up were always bullied for our love of the movies. It actually kind of irks me now, because I see the very people who made fun of us in school on their facebooks talking about how much they loved The Force Awakens and what huge Star Wars fans they are.
