Hello all!

Long post. Apologies.

OK, so I have succeeded in downloading all three versions of all three Despecialized films. I’ve even succeeded in burning DVDs from the DVD5 versions.

So if this is as far as I get, I’m still very happy!

However, as amazing as Harmy’s Despecialized Editions are, I miss having any kind of DVD menu and having subtitles that are optional. So I was hoping to be able to author some very simple menus, with nothing but background images, that would let me navigate chapters and turn subtitles on and off.

Trying my hand with Star Wars first, I used MakeMKV to extract an MKV from the AVCHD version that ends up being about 6.7 GB.

I have created a project in DVDStyler using that and one of the SRT files from Harmy’s 17 GB MKV version for subtitles and tried to burn it to a Verbatim Dual Layer DVD with that program. But the menus didn’t seem to burn properly. The buttons didn’t look the same or do what they were supposed to and the background image quality changed for the worse as well.

I thought that maybe it was just the burning part of the program being glitchy. So I saved the project as an ISO and was going to try burning that with IMGBurn. But I get this error message from IMGBurn when I try that:

“Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found! (VTS_01)
This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP Track Path) disc.
None of the cells meet the ‘DVD-Video specification’ criteria for a potential layer break position.
Do you want to continue anyway?”

I take it that means I need to somehow choose a spot in the movie where a slight pause as the DVD player changes layers will be least noticeable.

But even after consulting this guide:

http://club.myce.com/f153/choosing-correct-layer-break-position-imgburn-313692/

I’m still a little unclear on how to do it.

Plus, even after I figure out how, I need to figure out where, and I thought I also might defer to those of you who know the movies backwards and forwards better than I do for suggestions on spots in the center 50% of each of the three films where a layer break might be least noticeable.

Anybody willing to try a little trouble shooting with me? I’m happy to provide more info if needed and post screen shots of what I put together and what I’m seeing if anyone is.

My goal would be to do this without needing to buy a paid authoring program, though that may be a pipe dream. If it is, please let me know, and as I said, I’m still more than happy. But if anyone is willing to see if they have some ideas on how to make what I’ve made work better, let me know.

OR…

If anyone has additional homemade menus that would let me burn the Despecialized Editions from a 6.7ish GB files to DVD-DLs that will play in standard DVD players, with chapter menus and a subtitle on/off menu, and an appropriate layer break, without having to make my own, I’d be thrilled to get that help!

OR…

If anyone has better ideas on how to burn a disc playable on a standard DVD player with the menu features above, I’d be thrilled to get that help as well!

Thanks!
