You make good points about the utility of having a portable DVD. But if you’re looking for DVD-quality versions of the original trilogy, I’d argue that the LD-transfers are a better option: Upscaling to HD, then downscaling the footage back to SD isn’t doing it any favors. Plus, there are many shots where compromises were made in terms of actual content in order to preserve as much HD information as possible. (The custom mattes were executed with incredible quality, but are still a compromise.)
