I found something interesting on the Star Trek Renegades website ( http://startrekrenegades.com/home/be-a-renegade-support-the-ongoing-internet-tv-series/ )

For reasons we are not able to disclose, CBS cannot move forward with Star Trek Renegades at this time – or any Star Trek series for that matter.
I always thought CBS owns the rights to Star Trek TV shows and Paramount owns the rights to Star Trek movies. Any ideas what can be the reason why CBS can't do any Star Trek series?
It can mean anything. From CBS just not wanting to do any Star Trek series but they're cool with them making the fan series so they're putting it in the nicest way possible. To there is some legitimate contract reasons for why they can't make a Star Trek series at this time. Possibly that it stipulates that while there's a running movie canon they're forbidden from making a TV series and vice versa. As a possible way of avoiding either production from trying to "take command" over the other and make story demands to keep either within it's own canon. If that's the case then obviously making that public would be unwise as people would be like "I don't care about the movies just make a series" or "OMG this series sucks! Why don't you cancel it to make more movies!?"
