It's not like any of you ever bought an Italian poster for Terminator, have you?

I'm referring to this one

If anyone is interested, I believe there's an old Russian VHSrip on a certain Russian torrent tracker. I got it and discarded it long ago because it was full screen but not open matte. That being said, it didn't have a Harlan Ellision dedication, which may be of interest to some.

I know this may be a insignificant thing to most, but do any of the foreign prints open with any distributor indent other than the Orion logo? I found it odd that the cut German DVD has a version of the Orion logo with inserted German text... But I thought Orion only had U.S rights while Hemdale (the main production company behind it) released in the UK? Didn't other companies have theatrical rights in other non-English speaking countries?

If you are mentioning it as a source of "blank" material, we are quite sorted in that sense, I believe we have everything we need. As for a Russian preservation, it depends if the film text was localized in Russian language. Does it have Russian language appearing on screen?

I'm not sure who distributed it here in Italy, it was probably the same company that dubbed it, "C.F.I." of Carlo Marini, which appears in the end credits, but the Orion logo was left where it was, they only translated it (Un film "ORION Pictures Release").

I wonder if the information we're looking for is at the bottom of that thxita said:

That localised italian version is obviously a post 84 version done by a TV company. A real localised version wouldn't freeze a frame to replace the text. I don't see the point in preserving it.

It's like the french TV version which probably was done by some guy on his work computer. It doesn't count it's a TV ugly version.

You haven't seen it in motion. It was clearly done on film, not on video. The text had gate weave. Besides, no tv master would ever end up on Laserdisc.

JEDIT: and on VHS, I almost forgot about the VHS release. This is what it looked like.

Remember "The Terminator" was basically a B-Movie at the time. If you think that freeze frame was half-assed, brother, you haven't seen nothing.

The Italian version is obviously NOT a TV edit but since we have not properly described all the info and material in our hands (mine and Leo's) I can see why one can superficially think that. Sufficient to say that the freeze frame was only on the terminator POV, clearly a scene that the studios never thought would need translated in any foreign version (since it's then said aloud anyway - the "fuck you asshole" line) but the Italian supervisor had a different ideas apparently.

Moving on

Oh, OK, I would leave the "fuck you asshole" thing, because it's not localised, but actually modify the film. A restoration of the original rest is interesting.

This would be a great DVD/ Bluray release cover for an Italian Version

That's what we are planning to use. It comes from the theatrical poster but unfortunately they ditched it for any existing home video release.

I have found somebody selling that poster but before spending money for it (it's very very large therefore very expensive) I'm still hoping that it would pop up in a quality high enough to make a bluray cover. So far no luck, that's why I was hoping that some collector of posters on this forum might have it.

I am a person who grew up with an Italian Grandmother. So I can understand some Italian. So I am hoping you can provide a ENG subtitle also. This would help since I might not be able to understand all words.

So people can also expierence the Italian Audio but want ENG subs.

And here we go in much higher quality:

That's not bad at all, do you know where it came from?

Mitch, this release will have Italian transcribed subtitles (what they say on the Italian track is what you read on the subtitles) and English subtitles. For the audio we will have both English and Italian from Laserdisc.

But we will not have Italian subtitles translated from English as all DVDs have, I always thought that to be the most pointless feature of DVDs with Italian subtitles

Surely France had a localized version! Any French owner of Terminator on LD/VHS?

As a kid, I've always seen The Terminator with English opening text and time and place informations such as "Los Angeles, 2029 AD" and "Los Angeles, 1984" plus the time that I don't remember (something like 1:22 AM or whatever). Actually, the original French dub even put a voice-over to translate all that. That's almost still the case now on Blu-ray, except for the "Los Angeles, 1984" that's now mute.

There was a French DVD Release which had the voices for the time and places intact.

Maybe, even if the is no in screen text wise localized Version, maybe that's something for a international "localized" collection?

Probably the first one, from TF1 Vidéo with mono audio, so before it was remixed.

The remix of the italian track was missing some words from the soundtrack here and there, that's what initially prompted us to look for the Laserdisc soundtrack.

I'm finding hard to follow what you are saying about the French version, sorry if my reply could sound generic:

Our offer to make more foreign versions of this film was made on the assumption that at least the German and French theatrical versions would have localised on-screen text in 1984.But since we found out that this is not the case, our work on removing the English text is of no use to anyone but the Italian public.

Any further audio preservation in other foreign languages can be easily coupled with future versions of the kk650's 1080p regraded release, which makes more sense since all foreign versions (but the Italian one) make use of the American master.

So, unless somebody shows up with a 35mm print of the film with other localised on-screen text, I can only declare that this will be an Italian preservation only. We will include English audio from Laserdisc and English subtitles but that's it.

OK, I think there is online a french mono version taken from an HDTV airing, it's coupled with the video from Team Blu.

A search will show it.

To be precise, french localised titles never existed for the film, it always was written in english hence the voice over.

The localised version shown above is from a recent TV airing, and is the work of some intern who didn't even bother to check the correct translation and the correct font. It's basically a bad fan edit.

There is some loophole in french law, that let channel airs old masters while the same master on DVD and Blu-ray replace all other masters in all countries.

That's why you still can get from french TV the complete, uncut Mad Max 2 with Pappagallo speech intact, they use the old VHS master, and there are many other oddities that still air on french TV in better versions than the crap DVD version they are showing down our collective throats.
