Does anyone have Poseidon on HD DVD? I'm wondering if it's possible to "rip" the "In-Movie Experience" or if it's simply confined to the disc.
Anyone?
Region B... got it. Hopefully they continue to use that master for future releases because it is a strong transfer.

I don't have that movie.
But when you rip a full HD DVD you could play the IME using a software player. You can also rip the PiP track(s) used for it, but if it's not one long video for the entire film it would be tough to sync with the actual movie.

Does anyone have the Smokey And The Bandit HD-DVD? I'm sure it is better than the BD because the BD has a little too much filtering.

Thanks!
Question: what's the resolution usually for the PiP tracks? What are they encoded in? I actually think the Poseidon is feature, length.
The secondary video streams were always(?) 480p, encoded in the studio's choice of either VC-1, AVC, or MPEG-2. But I think only the first two were actually used.
I know it’s been a couple years but I’m still looking for Poseidon (or someone who will rip it for me if I send them the disc). Any takers?
What is your problem in ripping it yourself? Sadly, I don’t have the disc, or I could rip it.

I’m going to guess he doesn’t have the technology required, and doesn’t want to spend a few hundred dollars on equipment he’ll only use once.

I have neither the disc nor the hardware. And a little over the top to get it for one disc where I just need the bonus feature, not the film itself.
Mhmm… okay… (hundrets on technology required seems a bit… high assumed… I recently got a X-Box 360 HD-DVD Drive with 11 german HD-DVDs for under $ 20 here in Germany)
But don’t having the disc is quite a problem. If you can get the disc cheap, and send it to Germany, I think I would be able to rip the bonus features.
EDIT:
MAybe it won’t be nessecacry. I try to get the german HD-DVD at eBay.
Seems as if it got the same bonus Features, as the US one. Would be much cheaper to get it inside Germany, than getting a movie in the states, and ship it to Germany.

There are some cheap copies in the UK on Ebay as well.
P.S. If you need software to play back HD DVD on your PC, I can point you in the right direction. Most home theater software dropped support for the format years ago.
Where were you in '77?
I just saw that Cyberlink PowerDVD 7 Ultra, and a patched 8 Ultra could play HD-DVD on PC, but they are almost impossible to obtain.
Are there other newer Software for that?
VLC and MPC seem not to be able to play HD DVD…
Btw: I won the Poseidon HD-DVD Auction. Got it for lesser than $5 including shipping…

I have an old copy of Total Media Theater that supports it. It may only work on Windows 7 though.

I still have two Windows 7 only machines. Was afraid of upgrading to Windows 10, and avoided Windows 8 as hell.
Also the Poseidon HD-DVD arrived.

I used Windows XP since 2007; skipped Vista, avoided 7, disliked 8… but now that I have Windows 10 in the new machine, I’m pretty happy; strangely, it seems compatible with everything I had in the old PC, and it’s pretty similar to XP, so I’d say “go fo it!” 😄
Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash… 😦 | [Fundamental Collection] thread | blog.spoRv.com | fan preservation forum: fanres.com
Appears as though we don’t need to convert the APOLLO 13 HD DVD at all. The current Blu-ray disc release and upcoming UHD are derived from a 4K remaster so yes, the BD wins this time.
DragonHeart and some others still look shabby on BD though.
There is also World Trade Center, VC-1 + EAC3 1536 kbps on HD-DVD VS Mpeg2 AC3 640 on Blu-Ray.
Other paramount HD-DVD have the same difference with Blu-Ray
Space Cowboy HD DVD (VC-1) is a little sharper than the first BR (Mpeg2).
I’m looking for the HD-DVD version of Corpse Bride, and The Last Starfighter.
I have a lot of HD-DVD if people are interested.
The Spanish(Spain) HD-DVD of Underworld Evolution is better than the US Blu-ray VC-1 vs Mpeg2, the disc was quite sought after during the HD-DVD days
The Meet the Parents HD-DVD looks better than the blu ray to me.

The Blu-ray has slightly better detail: http://hd.maltebauer.de/worldtradecenter_bd-vs-hd/01.html
But a new master on UHD would be preferable (not that I particularly want to watch this film again).

Corpse Bride is from WB, so it has the exact same video encode as the BD, and the audio is still lossy. Plus WB HD DVDs are severely prone to rot.
The Last Starfighter has a new Blu-ray coming out soon from a new 4K master, but no UHD yet.
