I wonder if any film prints of the theatrical cut are out there? Then we could have some group like Negative1 restore all of it to its full glory.

Sorry about that.  If you sent me the audio, I could sync it for you.

Thanks, will do that !

I did a comparison in Virtual Dub of the 3 versions I have, my Z2 retail, a Z1 rip I found, your V2 restore.

I took a scene every 10000 frames and looked what the actual start frame was on each version

So you see the Z1 and Z2 version are in sync ( there is a 168 frames jump at a moment but I checked and the Z1 has a 168 frame black scene).

But your version slowly drifts from -3 (initial offset) to -85.This can't be corrected by just editing 2 scenes, and unfortunately will prevent adding foreign language tracks and subtitle tracks to your version to built the ultimate "all version" like the Harmy Star Wars edit.

Still, I aknowledge the hard work it must have been to edit the movie scene by scene, and perfectly understand if you want to keep it as it is. Even if it means I'll have to continue watching my awful PAL DVD ;-)

Thanks!

Thanks for the visualization. I see the gap gradually grows throughout the movie. As I recall, I needed to make 1-frame edits to the sound mix here and there throughout. Shots in the director's cut would often be a frame shorter than the theatrical cut, I recall. Those obviously add up.

I'm not opposed to making a version 3, but the only way to effectively make up those missing frames would be to repeat frames or insert more DVD footage, two things I wouldn't want to do.

I could still sync your French audio for you if you wanted. It would have edits here and there, just as the English mix has.

At the risk of adding more "spam" to this thread, can someone please PM me a link? Alternatively if it's planned for this to end up on MS then I'll just wait it out :)

Hello I don't know if I am allowed to ask this because of how late I am but is there any way I could get a copy?

I tried watching this movie in high school... may as well give this movie a shot now, as close as possible to the original theatrical cut.  (Also, I'm new here, hi!)

Somehow I missed the V2 release.  Please PM me a link!

Also, FWIW, I have a Perl script that can sync subtitles (graphical or SRT, doesn't matter) from one frame reference into another frame reference quickly and easily, so if I had the raw materials and a full understanding of those differences, that ultimate International release could be ready in a few minutes.  Well, on the subtitle side anyway--dubs are harder.

I started watching the Director's Cut and could not continue due to the dull pace. Searching for alternatives led me to this wonderful thread. I would love to have access to his version!

If anyone still has the RAR files for version 2, please let me know.  Part 15 has been down for a few days, and I deleted the original RAR files.  If not, I will need to re-split the movie and upload it over again.

Also, if anyone has Blu-ray case cover art for this, or even scans of the official Director's Cut cover that could be modified for this, let me know!

Having a heck of a time navigating that site, possibly because my virus scanner is going bonkers over it, so I'll probably just wait for another source.

Can anyone be kind enough to send me a link?

Would love to see the theatrical cut, since I haven't seen it since the 90's. I own the director's cut, but I feel the tone of the theatrical suits the film much better.

Okay, this is plain weird.  I'm trying to make this BD-compliant, and so I re-encoded the video (works fine), and the main audio also works fine without alterations, but I'm having a heck of a time with the isolated score and French tracks.  I've tried re-encoding and everything--they're just dead silent on my system, but play fine on my PC.  Any ideas?  48k sampling, 16-bit audio, not much that can go wrong there, right?  Weird watermark/copy protection issue?  No idea.

Quite late on this one, but I'd be grateful if anyone could PM me the link to V2.
