I had registered to the newsgroups for a test period only, just to get those movies. I'm not in there anymore, and I only remember very vaguely how it works.

But I could try to upload it somewhere else. Am I allowed to upload such material on myspleen? Or is there any other place I could upload the movies safely?

Better to use another method... Mega works fine; also, I use a lot Sendspace, but free limit is set to 300MB per file - no problems, at the contrary, if some "chunk" is corrupted, is possible to replace only those ones.

Another way is to set a private torrent tracker; in this way, who wants to download have not to wait for you to upload, but he could start to download immediately!

Have any of these managed to be shared? Considering the amount of custom BDs on the Spleen, I don't think these should be too big of an issue, long as waliking dork is asked. Really would be nice if they could be. Things seem to stand like this:

  1. The Motion Picture- I'd be interested in an HD cap of the DC or the TC. A DC HD cap would probably be an upscale, yet it would be better than a compressed DVD, likely. A TC HD cap may not have as much DNR, but the BD is less damaged by DNR than contrast-boosting.
  2. Wrath of Kahn- I'm going to be honest, this looks all right to me on BD, and the amount of DNR is really minimal. It still looks very film-like. An HD cap of the DC would be interesting, though, especially with its different color timing. As it's unrestored, I'm not sure of it will genuinely have more detail, though the HD caps of Apocalypse Now show more detail than the BD, so... go figure.
  3. Search for Spock- Search for Spock would be surpassed by an unfiltered HDTV capture easily.
  4. The Voyage Home- Same with the Search of Spock as this release looks pretty bad. I'd also be interested in a recreation of the international version. Maybe the LD could be transferred, Andrea? :)
  5. Final Frontier- Would be surpassed by unfiltered HDTV capture.
  6. The Undiscovered Country- I'd be interested to see the DC cut or the Home Video cut in HD. The BD is the worst of all the Star Trek movies, looks like the master was just 1080i. I think I prefer some of the alternate cuts to the theatrical one; which cut is the one on the HDTV cap that's just been found?

I had considered asking about this happening but I cannot seem to get my password fixed over there at the moment.  I'm glad I downloaded them because I can at least watch them here at home.

Jetrell, do you need an invite to myspleen? If you're having so much trouble, it might just make sense to make a new account.

EDIT: Check your PMs.

I'm curious about color grading differences of all the first six movies, on laserdisc, DVD, HDTV and BD.

As the EP4 internation version difference consists only in an added prologue before the movie, made using shots from previous movies, I think it will be better to recreate it using HD version of those shots.

I was finally able to snatch the DB rip of ST: Nemesis from the newsgroups.  I am checking it out as I type.  It looks very nice.  I look forward to getting at least the last 4 movies before JJ's reboot outfitted with their cinema DTS audio.

Keep watching this thread for more.  Doombot and I are getting ready to start our second set of edit/synch of DTS audio.

Whatever was in the newsgroups is what I have .... TPM Theatrical thru Nemesis.  I want to say they were all SkyHD caps .... I could be wrong.  I enjoy the way they look but I'm not a PAL junkie so the audio for Generations to Nemesis will get the cinema DTS treatment.

Entirely off-topic, but care to elaborate on this?  Very interested.  Would be willing to discuss via PM.

 Guys,

Nemesis is the one Trek film that has no SkyHd posting to the newsgroups. I don't think it was ever even broadcast on SkyHd. The only version that was ever posted was a terrible mpeg2 1080i that was full of errors and that was way back in 2006. I wouldn't worry about it. Nemesis looks and sounds great on Blu-ray.

I have the Star Trek Movies 1-6 SkyHD caps. They are h264 with Dolby Digital 5.1. Unlike the Blu-ray's, they don't suffer from DNR and IMO have the original theatrical colors.

You have a pm.  I am hoping to get the usenet titles from you again for another search.

Thanks

When HD started with Sky they did not have the rights to it

I wish there was a restored version of the theatrical cut of the wrath of khan without the blue tint.

Is there a lesser quality non restored HDTV rip of the theatrical with better colors than the Lowry version?

The old single disc Paramount DVD maybe?

The HD source transfer for that original DVD seems to have been used to make the old HDTV version that used to show up on HDNet and Sky. There is a 720p MKV out there, but the raw 1080i rips seem lost to the ages...

Intriguing. How's the quality and color timing? Does it match the Director's Cut DVD (without the blueness of the Blu-Ray)?

Author
Time

I have that file lying around somewhere on an old hard drive, it's the Sky UK cap, never realized it was the Director's Cut. Even downloaded the iTunes version in 720p so that I could have the Director's Cut.

Will have to dig it up when I get time and compare it to the iTunes one and see which is better.

Any of you who have the HD Director's Cut have any way you can share ... or point us in the right direction of where we might find it online currently? :)

From what I remember the picture quality was very mediocre.

That's great!!!

According to mediainfo data posted by Jetrell Fo, it seems quality is not that bad, to be an HDTV broadcast... may you add some comment on their overall video quality?

they are the only way I watch the movies, I think they look great.

Obviously they are not at the correct frame rate, but that can be sorted
