Okay, with the many prequel rewrites out there, I've noticed each one bases their stories and concepts from different sources of Star Wars and non-Star Wars media. Some are more based on the PT, taking away some of the stuff that didn't work (like belatedmedia's videos). Other rewrites take sources from the EU while others just use the OT, like The Fall-A Fresh Take on the Clone Wars (which is pretty good-seriously, check it out!).
For me, I'm keeping my story, The Dark Times, as an AU of the PT expanded universe. For this, I've kept much of the elements of the PT (the Jedi not marrying, Naboo, Kaminoans, etc.) but I've also used this to incorporate elements from 90's SW Bantam books (Clone Masters, Spaarti clones, the Clone Wars being more than just a few years).
As for non-Star Wars Media, I've been thinking of using elements from Arthurian legend used in film (e.g. Knights of the Round Table and the dynamic between Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere). I thought it be easier to use as Anakin can been seen as a combination of Lancelot and Mordred.
What sources would you use for your rewrite? Would it be more of the Expanded Universe (now "Legends") or would it be something completely different? I'd like to know. Thanks.
