Doesn't Video enhancer (http://www.infognition.com/videoenhancer/) use the same technique? I tried it on a short sample from the GOUT and it did an OK job - it might make it look better on your HDTV than the built in hardware upscalers, but it's never going to create an instant OT Bluray version that I'd be happy with.
